"Panther's spending spree cap hits in future seasons"

Considering we are probably one of the few teams with it's core players signed through 2014/2015 I have no problem with this.

Yeah so WTF is the issue. If JR doesn't spend he is a cheap ass. When he does and locks up good, youthful core talent at a good rate he is causing issues for the rest of the league.

We tied up guys that other teams would have paid JUST AS MUCH FOR, but JR is a dumbass for doing so?

fug the media, bunch of dip shits that never accomplished anything on any field or any arena trying to talk about how it should be done.

Even though we have our talent locked up, I do wish it was more front loaded than back. This season and next are our building seasons... If things go right by year 3 we should be a title contender...

If that's the case it would be better to have money to splurge on a key FA that gives us the final piece to make a push in those years....

Not complaining, just wish it would have worked out that way....

Ummmm there is a serious case of 'head in sand' going on right here. The Panthers have taken a risk extending the amount of players they did to multi-year deals on better than generous money. Our next 3-4 years are dependent on this core and a few of them don't pan out, we are then in the fun situation of having to deal with cap penalties for cutting them.

If you think we can extend any player we want every year, you don't understand the implications of these contracts.

Great that they believe in the decisions, but you can't deny it's a risk.

. . .

It was definitely a risk, but it was also a statement and you could go a little further and say that it will be a big factor in defining the NFL's salary structure from here on out. The risk is minimal, I'll say as a fan, and add that making sure the rest of the owners have to pay the same for talent now was worth it.

JR understands the cap, the strike, FA money, and his own market. period. That's why he was the only one to not sign ANYBODY when the labor deal wasn't in place, and spent the most after it. He's locked up players that we are going to love, for more money then they could get elsewhere so that they would stick with a 2-14 team. How many top of the FA market guys did we have? how many of them stayed? because the love charlotte, or because we paid them more? He did what he needed to do to make the best team he could given the labor situation. Just like he tried (and failed) to do last year. We'll see if this one pans out.
