All of Cam Newtons plays at FanFest (video)

Jimmy is money on anything 5-15 yard passes, While Cam was seemingly the opposite and showed a little inconsistency in the short range passes, but he definitely blew it up on anything beyond.

Would like to see Jimmy at least try and go long in PRACTICE. I'm just going to assume that Jimmy lacks the confidence to even attempt to throw beyond 20.. He just lacks that Jake/Favre "F*ck it ima go long on this one"! mentality.

While on the other hand, Cam doesn't. If he can polish on his 'touch' and react to blitzes better, no way in hell he doesn't start 9/11.

Can't wait until this weekend, honestly.

And holy poo and our RB's. The more and more I see Goodie/Sutton tear it up, the more likely I see one of RB's being traded in the near future. Hell, our RB carousel most definitely could start on every team in the league, easily.

Cam looked like the 2nd year pro and Jimmy looked like an UDFA pickup. I have nothing against Jimmy, but I was expecting more from him.

Clausen looked better than Newton in those videos.

Also, some of our receivers need to learn how to fuging catch!

I'm wondering if its coaching that has got in his head. Was reading about him in this article and ...........

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1246081

Arm Strength: Enough arm strength to make every necessary NFL throw, but requires great effort to do so. Good zip on crossing or out patterns to either side of the field when in balance. Places in the ball in tight quarters over the middle. Tries to throw too hard at times, and needs to take a bit off short passes and rely on his arm strength to deliver passes without a wind up. His 60-yard deep ball floats, allowing safety help to arrive

Takes too many chances downfield, eschewing his underneath options and trusting his receivers but not acknowledging safety help over the top. Also throws late over the middle or across his body, which he won't get away with in the pros.

i dont understand at all how people are saying clausen looked better than cam. clausen looks like a pee wee football player out there. if he has improved at all, its a very slight difference...jimmy cant throw deep to save his life, and im sorry, but im tired of seeing no passes over 20 yards...cam better start week 1..

f*cking lol at the Aaron Rodger comparison.

.

Jimmy is money short....until a D brings a defensive gameplan for his short throw only offense (and you get what happened last season)......no offense.

Thanks for posting this!

Cam looked exactly as described: Big play ability but a great deal of inconsistency. Man, some of his deep balls look GREAT but he seems to really struggle at times on short and intermediate stuff. He looks like he's got some chemistry with Clowney, who suddenly looks as if he can actually catch passes. He's exciting to watch and I can't wait to see the preseason - I really hope I can find a way to watch it...

On to Clausen... Wow, a bunch of times Jimmy actually looked to escape pressure by stepping up. I don't get what the boos were about. He made the smart play on just about every throw, but he's going to need to take some risks one of these days. Clausen finally showed the ability to change the touch on the ball depending on how far he was throwing it. Last year he'd gun and it'd bounce off his backs sometimes. He didn't look to stretch the field as often as Cam but the play calls looked very different from that video, though perhaps they weren't.

I thought Jimmy looked a bit better than Cam did, but not by a ton. I would expect that Cam would take over by mid season if his growth continues as is - and if Jimmy struggles in preseason we'll probably see Cam in the opener. I don't think #2 is done yet though, and I hope he has a good showing and silences the boos in the preseason. Cam is going to take over for him eventually, but the better he plays now, the more we will actually know about him to decide if he's worth keeping around as a backup or not.

RE: the aaron rodgers stuff - keep in mind rodgers sat for years, and had to change a great deal about his game. there are some that thought if he started his first year he would have been awful. who knows if they're right or not.

funnily enough, this offense doesn't require as much past 20 as some are convinced it does, if we use last year in SD and DA in Cleveland his probowl year as examples. jimmy's past 20 stuff wasn't as terrible as many here make it out to be but the major thing is he lacked production from the passes he did make at that distance, and it's possible that garbage time skewed his stats (completion percentage >20 yards for jimmy was 38.1%, with 7% of his passes going over 20 yards; DA had a 36% completion percentage with 8% of his passes going >20 yards; Rivers last year had a 38.6% completion percentage with 10.5% of his passes going >20 yards). What *was* terrible was 11-20, which is where this offense makes it's money, along with his ability to turn big plays into actually meaningful plays in the form of YAC or TDs. I'm not trying to say Clausen was good last year; he wasn't. He failed where it was most important for him to succeed, in the intermediate range passes. If he can improve there, maybe we'll see a return to him trying to go deep once in a while... who knows.

I also didn't think Clausen had this problem in college - he did go deep there. he also seemed to go deep earlier in his time here, then near the end he just took anyone who was even remotely open no matter how short a pass it was (like throwing behind the line of scrimmage to a RB with a LB within 5 yards, blah).
