Training camp QB progress report

From what people have said, Jimmy Clausen has been doing very well his last two days of camp. He sounds like he is looking solid but not spectacular... but that he is showing improvement. He is still not there yet in all likelihood as he sometimes holds the ball too long and has a bad tendency to get 89 killed, but he also finally got him in the endzone today... albeit in practice.

Cam has had flashes of brilliance mixed with total inconsistency, but that's to be expected. His running ability has apparently been very explosive, but he's had some trouble with the passing game. He's a rookie so that is unsurprising. He's a total charismatic guy though and he apparently never stops smiling.

In other words, both are in need of improvement, both are working at it. perhaps best of all is that the coaching staff has taken to calling plays to suite each player, making them more comfortable in what they are running. They both are working with the 1s and 2s, but it does seem like Clausen is typically opening with the 1s, but I doubt that means much. I am willing to bet that despite reports to the contrary, the Panthers are not set on who is starting yet.

All this is based off tweets. I haven't seen it myself, so.

Clausen has been mr careful during camp, he looks like a game manager at times and like a little kid playing a mans game. Clausen in the right system could become a decent quarterback but his pocket presence is very suspect as he tends to check down more then take chances. When it comes to accuracy clausen beats newton ten fold but don't count on him to improvise when a play breaks down.

Cam looks like a rookie plain and simple but makes up for it with his gunslinger mentality. He reminds me of a young brett favre mixed with steve young. Cam will make a awe inspring play at times but turn around and sail a pass ten yards away the reciever.

Derek anderson looks like hes just taking up space he may have the experience but hes clearly not putting his best effort forward. He seems as thoa hes doing just enough to make the coaches happy.

I only got to see them practice one day and it was the opening practice so no pads. Cam has a rocket attached to his shoulder, no other way to put it. The velocity of his passes are second to none, it is just wild. Jimmy seemed like an above average dude playing rec flag football. We have all seen the guy, kills the lesser competition but doesn't hold up to his equals. Pike has two swimming noodles for arms, and could throw it better with his legs.

People are not going to be happy unless they can rip Clausen. Time to get over it and hope he improves. About the rocket arm --means little with inaccuracy and inconsistency. About the running ability: Means little if it becomes an escape because your arm is inaccurate and inconsistent. What are the two traits every great QB in the NFL has possessed? Intelligence and accuracy.

If you are accurate and intelligent on a regular basis, you are consistent.

He has a long way to go. Period.

Derek Anderson has a vagina.

Disturbing. I watched his interview. Ever get the feeling he doesn't want to be here, that he is just drawing a check for as long as he can? I am here to help Cam and Jimmy. First time he has ever worked with a colleague at his position. Besides, he is 28--in his prime--try to win the job, ahole.
