Ryne Robinson?????

great flashes of what???

look at who we have had with great potential that never showed up:

Keary Colbert

Drew Carter

Chris Weinke

DJ Hackett

We always have potential never the goods. Cut him and keep Mark Jones who is a solid returner. Do not need a WR/RB/CB to be our main returner. Ask the Aints what happened to their golden child last year.

PS RESIGN NO> 56 JASON KYLE..the best long snapper in the league. Most underrated pos in football. ASK th NYG-Men

Umm.. is there any reason we don't have room for both?

1 - Smitty

2 - Moose

3 - Jarrett

4 - Robinson

5 - Jones

6 - Carter

Am I missing anyone here? Carter may not be 100% by the beginning of the season, and I don't see them going out to pick up a receiver, just to pick up a receiver. If anyone is on the bubble, imo, it's Carter. The other two are utility players, which is a John Fox staple to make the team.

Don't forget the year the Rhyne played, we had TERRIBLE special teams play. Last year, Jones' effort was a direct result of a much IMPROVED special teams unit.

IMHO, if Rhyne had been healthy last year, at least 3 KR would have gone the distance. I am surprised nobody has brought this up.

Rhyne Robinson is much better than Mark Jones.

I think the improvement in our return game is a result of the returner himself. We also had a couple punts blocked and a few near misses as well on special teams. Jones found the holes and gave us great field position and has shown he is a better returner than Robinson. If it isn't broke, then don't fix it I say.

Mark Jones is our kick returner, he earned that roster spot beyond reasonable doubt. The last time the Panthers got comparable returns was with Steve Smith, and that's a risk we can no longer take.

Out of need, a replacement for Ryne Robinson was found, and Mark Jones was simply better at that job on day one. Being replaced is the nature of the NFL business.

There is a possibility that Mark Jones will earn himself WR3 over Dwayne Jarrett. But, given our current depth chart, plus the 2-TE stuff we've been doing, our coaches don't seem to be moving him(or the team) that way. So, considering that Robinson has been well replaced by another player of near-identical size and shape, and that his replacement probably won't be promoted to WR3, in part because Steve Smith is also near their size and shape, Robinson's career with us is on the bubble. He must now prove his roster worthiness in some other capacity, and I just don't see an obvious spot.

Then again, Dwayne Jarrett has certainly not performed up to the expectations any NFL team would have of the 45th overall pick, AND he got a DUI in Charlotte. He was unhappy with the terms of his starting 3 year contract, which postponed some bonus money, and he has been slow to learn our offense, which has been changing every year. Something about the chemistry between Jarrett and the Panthers wasn't right from the start, and still isn't right after two years. We've had time to develop the relationship, the confidence, the comfort, time to sit and think about it. Now, its time to move on. Unless he steps up beyond anything we've ever seen from him, I say we cut our losses on that guy pronto.

If we could trade Peppers for Tori Holt and a 3rd, I'd do it in a New York minute.

Isn't Holt like 97? That would be a terrible trade.

He's 32, and until last year when the Rams were horrible, hasn't had less than 1,000 yards receiving for his entire career.

Tori would be significatly less expensive than Peppers, but is still a better receiver than Muhsin Muhammad in my opinion. The three of them, Smith, Holt, Muhaamad would be the best receiving group our franchise has ever had. Since we are not likely to replace Delhomme this year, we might as well pack the talent around him. The next QB in line will need that talent to be present if they are to develop successfully, imho.

There are also some intangibles that would make a trade like this make sense. Obviously, Holt is an NC native, and might like to return. We've been throwing draft picks at the WR position for year, and still have no clue who our WR3 is.

Peppers would be back with Will Witherspoon, Chris Draft, and some of our coaches in STL. They have no pass rush... I know I'm dreaming, but if the numbers for Holt were right (1.5 mil bonus money/March 17th) then maybe ~5mil/year, we could swing it.

:eek:Mark Jones consitantly couldn't beat the kicker or punter - the ST unit put him in position MULTIPLE times to make a play and score last year and he simply couldn't do the job. What a tremendous insult comparing Jones to a former great return man.

Obviously, we disagree. If memory serves me, the kicked football didn't catch itself or run itself forward for positive yardage last year. If Jones was as bad as your opinion of him, why didn't the coaches get some other football player to make the easy scores?

b/c Fox's other option was Nick Goings or your 1st round draft pick RB (who was already battling injury the majority of the 1st half of the season)?

Seriously, how many times this year did it come down to Jones not being able to beat the kicker/punter? We had improved special teams, the improvement wasn't just "insert Jones". When the blocking was provided and the lanes opened up - he was unable to make the big play.

Now that I think about it, if Stewart comes into the season healthly he will most likely take over kickoffs.

I sincerely doubt that.

Yes, Jones struggled at getting past the kicker, but he gave us good position for the most part. At least so much so that Fox isn't going to throw his first-round pick out there to do the dirty work.
