Corvey Irvin : "Comeback Kid"

Irvin is not bad. Before he left for Dallas, DL coach Baker made an interesting comment about Irvin. He said (basically) that Corvey is his own worst enemy, that he gets down on himself and beats himself up (something to that effect). I took that to mean that he sees a player under the helmet, and as soon as he gets mentally right he can contribute. Maybe I read too much into that.

Do not dismiss Neblett. He is the darkhorse, the forgotten man.

Even if Irvin beats out Hayden, Neblett would have to step up or else Hayden will still be the #5 DT.

True. With so much youth, I wondered if they would not keep 5.

As it is now, Fua and Neblett are 1 technique DTs, with Irvin capable of playing the 1.

McClain and Irvin and Hayden can play the 3 technique. Not a great scenario, and we will be picking up a dt, but this could suffice. We have to give our youth a chance to develop. Not referring to Fua and McClain as much as I am referring to Hayden, Irvin, and Neblett.

Irvin was a beast at Georgia---a high motor guy. He just needed to refine his technique. If he has, then watch out league!

That is good to hear. I remember when we drafted him, I thought we took him 2 rounds too early. However, DTs don't last long in the draft.

I have always felt that motivation was Irvin's biggest issue. He always had the size and potential but lacked the drive to do whatever it takes to be the best. Getting cut was a wake up call. Now he has the chance to win the job and show that he was worth the third round pick we used on him. Seems he has the desire and drive now. It is his golden opportunity.
