The Doctor is in ... Zod's season prognosis...

My #1 concern is, how will Cam react to throwing 3-4 interceptions in a game? Will he want to quit, and rest on the laurels of making it this far, or will he meet with coaches and teammates, iron out the miscommunications, and show drastic improvement? I'm not going in expecting him to be MVP like I feel like some of you subconsciously are.

At the same time, I do have some expectations because I've seen him at his best in Auburn time and again. He has some tools to throw to here and a good ground game. I hope he isn't as cavalier as Delhomme, as conservative as Clausen, or as all-around incompetent as Carr. He has all season to show improvement. Let's hope it doesn't take nearly that long.

I always start at 8-8....then after the preseason decide where to move it.

Rivera has enough talent to win. All comes down to if he knows what to do with it......He has a roster to win w/ a rookie QB. Maybe not have a winning record but to be more than respectable.

Yea, I can't argue with 5-11. I could see it happening, but I could also see 9-7 or so happening. Some of the teams we're facing that are supposedly making our schedule so tough are overhyped. I think some of these teams are going to come back down to earth (namely TB and Chicago, for starters).

I think one of the best things that Zod does here is he throws water on the impossible expectations. We have no reason to expect great things. We hope they amaze the league, but that is not realistic. Just like everyone who posts "MVP" when Cam smiles during a drill or throws a TD in 7 on 7 drills, reality seems to be ignored on this site. Better deal with it now.

Real world concerns:

QB: The bottom line is this: We are only going to be as good as our QB play dictates. Cam is rough and not ready--we knew he would not be when we drafted him. Does that mean he will not play? No. The coaches see him as our best chance to win. When you look at CLausen's results last year and Anderson's career numbers, he probaby is. Maybe he will continue the run he is on. We all hope so. However, how will Cam handle himself in adverse condtions? How will he snap back after a miserable game or losing streak? You don't know.

WR: Too much potential, not enough experience.

DE: Too many question marks. CJ-1 solid year; EB- step up or step out; GH-Training wheels before training camp-all potential at this point; Norwood--undersized and unproven.

DT: Already not liking some things about McClain-hope I am wrong. The biggest? he is a rookie. So is Fua. Edwards is 32 and his play slipped as the season progressed last year. The rest? Below average.

CB: Munnerlyn is a nickel who was taken in the 7th round. Gamble is underperforming and quirky. Hogan is headed to IR, but if you counted on an injured, fourth-round rookie with character issues, then that says enough about CB. Burney is on everyone's roster--an undrafted rookie who runs a 4.72 40. Then there are a few more 7th rounders: McClain, Stanford, and CJ Wilson. Wow. That is poor. We have a first rounder, an injured, dysfunctional 4th rounder, and 4 former 7th rounders on the roster. They will face 3 pro-bowl caliber QBs in the division. 9-7? Really?

There are reasons to be positive. New and healed veterans will play: Davis, Olsen, Edwards, Otah. We will double our win total from last year. Our offense will be aggressive and so will our defense, but with aggressive playcalling comes mistakes. This is the year we find out who we are. Next year is the year for lofty expectations.

I think reality in the NFL has recently proven......if you have a roster like ours and you can't win 5-8 games with a rookie QB......then you simply have poor coaching.

I think the extra downtime and standing around, can be contributed to all the teaching that's going on, with having to learn a new playbook. Also yesterday was the first day that everyone was actually eligible to practice, so really it's too early to tell. Rex Ryan runs a pretty laid back camp, and we can agree that the Jets do pretty well.

nice point. Rex's teams are very tough and practice is very light and upbeat.

I think we might just be getting a glimpse of the norm. as most NFL guys said Fox really put guys through the ringer with his camp.

I dont have high expectations, but I look forward to watching our guys grow together and get better. I'm not gonna be disappointed this year by setting too high expectations, but I would love to be surprised.

5 or 6 wins would make me happy. 8 W's would be exceptional.

I don't think that Cam is an NFL QB just yet, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't start. I will wait until the 3rd preseason game to make that call.

Let the 1st preseason game whip their ass, and you will see camp get a little more serious.
