The Doctor is in ... Zod's season prognosis...

Well, I don't mean from a stats or a record prespective . I am making the point that his personality has worked for his teams, and has not negatively impacted their play.

He will throw interceptions, just like Manning did, just like Freeman did, and just like Jamarcus Russel, the real test isn't limiting his interceptions, the test is learning from his mistakes.

He will never know his limits, if he doesn't push them. Just like we will never know how good Clausen can be until he takes some chances.

Agree with you.

I still would like to see Anderson step up in camp and start the season...then Cam take over half way through unless somehow we are playing very well.

That extra time would b evaluable to his progression.

Get him some spot duty, but not the starting role from Day #1.

San Diego Chargers have historically started out very slow out of the gates.. I wonder if this is the cause.. relaxed training camps.

Rivera was also with the Bears as a coach and player......so I wouldn't pin the Norv way of things on Rivera

Due to the time missed.....easing into things could aid in preventing injury (he has already been without a lot of bodies as camp opened). I doubt things will be all sunshine and lolipops the entire offseason.

i expect things to get a bit more serious after the first pre-season game and the first wave of cuts come.

right now, though, it's important that they have some fun with what they are doing and i hope they keep having fun at it, even if they lose most of their games this year as long as they are improving. the key thing above it all is that they do just that, keep on improving.

I'd be relaxed and happy to play the game too if I had to be locked out for the whole offseason..I'm sure many are just relieved that they are getting to practice together right now.

With the new training camp rules games are going to be won in lost in the film room and through proper coaching. It's probably going to make it much easier to see which guys really want to play football and which really could care less. It's going to be hard to judge this TC since it's one you have probably never seen the likes of before, eh?

I've thought anywhere from 4-12 to 8-8, I always wait until after 2 preseason games to make a full prediction but I've been leaning toward 5-11 as well. And I'm OK with that, especially if Teh Camz leads us to 3-4 of those 5 wins. If we look a little sharp early on, I might go 6-10 or 7-9. If not, 5-11 or 4-12.

But what do I know? In the past two seasons I've predicted the Panthers would finish with exactly one more win than they did. I said 9-7 in '09 and 3-13 in '10.

I would tend to agree with Zod.

I had put down 4-12. I think however our youth and blitzing D will afford us a bit more opportunity.

Biggest issue is the fact that the NFL has become a passing league and at this time, that does not bode well for us on offense or defense.

I think the leadership will be there on defense with Beason.

Offense is another story. Cam appears to be too relaxed and goofing around. I think the success he had at Auburn has him a little over confident. It will be a rude awakening from him once he is on the field with real NFL defenses.

Cam is young...he does not know what he does not know.

So where is the coach or veteran who should be out there slapping his ass around? Smitty? Where are you?

Hopefully, for panther fans, you guys just saw a few relaxed moments and not the way camp is. As zod pointed out, is it the CBA? Is it the coaching staff?

Interesting stuff.

Based on watching practice on Wednesday and seeing Newton struggle, 5-11 is a realistic prediction. I did hear Newton was much better yesterday, but I think his performance is going to be uneven all year just like any rookie.

It is hard to predict anything at this point. The biggest reason I am tempering my expectations is simply the fact the NFCS is going to be very tough. I do think we will be in most games, and there are certainly going to be a lot of winnable games outside the division.

However, to get close to 8-8, we are going to have to be at least .500 in the division. Not undoable, but certainly not a given.

Camp did seem loose, but I don't think that is indicative of the players not taking it seriously. There is definitely competition at every position, and players know they are fighting for roster spots.

Camp under John Fox did seem more serious, but sometimes I think it bordered on being too tense. Last year especially, it didn't seem like anyone was having fun. 2006 seemed the same way to me as well when the Panthers were predicted to win the SB. Need a good balance- and maybe Rivera hasn't completely found it yet. I think he is better qualified to make that determination than anyone else.

All due respect, and I do think 5-11 may be a truly objective prediction, but I don't think how Rivera is conducting camp will be the reason for their record as much as having a rookie QB starting in a very tough division.

Really do appreciate the great camp updates.
