Great (Short) Article on Armanti - Rivera: We’ll find places to put him on the field

Armanti is a great example of why drafting a guy too early is damaging to the team. In this case, more damaging because our GM traded up to get him. Edwards in the third put more pressure on him to perform right away. The trade compounded that. He would be changing positions, catching punts, and running the Wildcat--a ton for a kid to learn. If Hurney had waited, he would have fallen to the sixth round or so. Ranks up there with the Rashard Anderson pick. THE REASON IT IS DAMAGING: YOU HOLD ONTO THE PICK LONGER. Hurney does not want to look bad, you have more invested, etc. If Edwards was a fifth rounder, he would have been cut last year.

The Clausen/Edwards draft was basically Hurney operating on his own, not taking into consideration the input from a lame duck head coach. I hope Rivera has more control over Hurney.

Dude - are you serious? Do you really think Hurney and the rest of his staff are dumb enough to trade a 2nd round pick for someone who's going to be around in the 6th round? They obviously had good reason to belive Armanti was going to be gone by the time their pick rolled around. Why casual fans think they have better intel than NFL staffs is beyond me.

Or maybe another GM realized how much intrest hurney was showing in Edwards before the draft, and bluffed intrest in Edwards thinking it could force the panthers into wasting a high pick on a project player.

Well we'll never know will we? Either way, there's no reason to think a player taken in the 3rd round would have been around in the 6th. If Hurney and crew thought he was worth a 2nd rounder, I'm guessing at least one more front office had a similar grade on him.

Just like they had the same grade on Jimmy as Hurney did right?

Thaaaaat doesn't make any sense...

You assume other front offices thought he was worth a 2nd simply because Hurney did. I disprove that logic by showing that just because Hurney thought Jimmy was worth it doesn't mean others felt the same based on the fact that they passed on him. Makes perfect sense.
