JR Addresses Accusations of Being Cheap

The point is Richardson should have fired Fox rather than leave him in a lame duck position....it's Richardson's team...not Foxes...Richardson is the one with the commitment to the PSL owner.....Wow.

there are plenty of good reasons why that's a bad idea when you are forced into limbo for a year..

I think he sold Fox a bill of goods and changed his tune in the winter of 2010. Why do I think that? They extended Diggs to a three year deal in February and cut him 3 months. Who does that unless there is change of plans between February and May?? Personally I believe that when Pepper's bailed they felt that they weren't going to win with the vets and went on a slash and burn mission. Speculative? Yes. But I think it is close to the truth. By June it was too late for Fox to bail as well and still get a headcoaching gig so he was stuck.

seems plausible..

So it's JR's fault that Fox failed to put effort into a job he was being paid millions of dollars to do.

The people that called him cheap after last season are idiots to begin with. You have to look at his track record, he isn't cheap, he was never cheap.

He was cheap last year but hasn't been most of our franchise life. So as long as you clarify it was last year and not since 1995 it is hardly ignorant. In fact it is totally factual.

Know anyone who is getting anything close to what they paid for PSls these days?? I am doing what people are doing with their houses, stocks and other valuables. Riding it out hoping for a rebound in the economy and the Panthers so when I sell I won't take a complete bath.

That's fair enough, but we aren't exactly talking about a lifetime savings amount of money here. Whilst it isn't a great time to sell, there will be a lot of buyers for that very reason. I don't want to come across as belittling the amount for the PSL. If you sold now, you would save the $1,500 and gain whatever it was sold for. Most things don't go up in value, so I wouldn't expect to get what you paid for it - unless we moved to some super natural stadium. But by that point you will have paid out more each season than you could possibly hope to recoup.

I understand your situation now though. In an idea sitution, the Panthers become media whores and your PSL increases in value and you make money off of it. Losing seasons like last year do the opposite.

You missed the point. Just because a player retires doesn't mean they weren't valuable to their team any more.

I realize the point.. I just don't think it applies so much to those players who had replacements and failed to provide value to 31 other teams..

Moss could have come back if he lowered his standards a bit.. the players we let go weren't wanted at all..

I think if Fox did a better job of coaching up players over the years, the shock of dropping those players wouldn't have been so obvious.. they would have been replaced already..

Moss' would have ended up in NE if OchoCinco didn't land there.. our players couldn't find a job as water boy..

By the way p55, I lost more money in business last year as a result of the Panthers' season than you did in ticket prices, so should I be up in arms too?

Absolutely. You have a real gripe too except you don't share a contract or a commitment with Jerry Richardson.

Moss' would have ended up in NE if OchoCinco didn't land there.. he also could have went to plenty of teams had he lowered his standards..

the players we cut went into retirement for 1 reason.. they had nothing left to offer to anyone.

Coaches have different strategies and not all of them include training professional athletes to do their job....it's not like the 2010 Panthers were left with 1st and 2nd round draft picks or quality free agents when the 8 veterans were cut....Fox was left with late round draft picks and random gap filler free agents. Not one of those starters was replaced with a like part. I don't know why I'm really arguing this point...it's about as obvious as the nose on your face.

I think it could have been handled differently had the lockout not arrived at the same time Fox was getting fired (not extended)..

that is the main reason all of this became bigger than it should have been. I just don't agree that there's much you should do when you're about to hire a new coaching staff and you have 1 more year before a lockout..

I can't find anywhere that Rivera was free to land in Carolina for the 2010 season..

Your time sequence is off. If Richardson was going to get rid of Fox it would have been at the end of 2009 not the end of 2010. That is a year before the lockout in 2011. Rivera interviewed for 9 headcoaching jobs in 2009 and got none. He signed with San Diego in 2010 after he got no head coaching offers. Plus NFL rules also say you can't stop an assistant coach under contract from seeking and obtaining a head coaching job so Rivera could have left his assistant coordinator job with no consequence. Otherwise coordinatoors could never leave for somewhere else.

Again he saved 5 million bucks out a budget of 200 million. Penny wise and pound foolish.

are you fuging kidding me? none of what you said just made sense.. you really think 2010 was the only draft Fox was involved in?

no, I was talking about hiring Rivera for the 2010 season.. meaning he would have been hired prior to the 2010 season..

as for Rivera being available, I wasn't aware..

    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
    • In my dream, we somehow luck into a top 2 pick and someone wants a QB bad and doesn’t want anyone else to jump them. Somehow we’ll probably screw up the picks anyway, but it would be nice to do even partially what Chicago did to us. We’d have to lose out, which is a decent possibility unless Tampa is resting. We need Atlanta to stay within a game because Atlanta beat Tampa twice. The rest of the draft slots are who knows because Jax plays the Raiders and then Tennessee and you never know who will rest starters. I think we are top 7 unless we somehow pull out 2 more wins. The 4 win teams have higher SOS and there is only one 5 win team with the same SOS. If we win 1 of 3, we still should stay in top 7. If we lose out and the Jax games work for us, we can easily be top 3.
