Depth Chart Projections

Smith

Naanee

Gettis

Lafell/Edwards

Wouldn't be surprised if that looks like our receiver core, with Lafell and Edwards sharing time playing on the field. Or, possibly Edwards beats him out for the job, not better then the three guys ahead of him though methinks.

Pilares is kept in case someone gets hurt, and to help with giving breaks to the starters when they need them. If Edwards proves to be good on special teams they have him be the punt returner and takes away a spot used for solely special teams use.

Pilares possibly to the practice squad.

I have:

Smith

Gettis

Naanee

Lafell

Edwards

Sadly, some good players aren't going to make the team.

True, but it is a good thing at the same time that we have enough depth that so good players will get cut. That has not been the case the last 2 years.

Really surprised (pleasantly) about Corey Irvin. I heard he had been working out and is good friends with Charles Johnson, but I really never expected anything out of him. To heard he is lining up as a started is impressive- glad he has worked hard. If Irvin can contribute, we may be in good shape at DT.

That would leave CB as the only glaring hole on the roster.

I think we may keep six receivers on the roster this year.

Without having to keep an extra kicker, we have a free spot, and besides, they don't have to put Derek Anderson on the game day roster. He can be one of the seven who don't get a jersey. There's another open space for someone there.

Some people are overrating Naanee.

well, people had been penciling in Pilares as the #3 WR weeks before camp started.....most never watched him play a live snap on TV in college.

Injury could ultimately set the roster, as far as this season goes a lot of those guy are probably pretty comparble if just looking at the short term.

Some people are overrating Naanee.

Agreed. He knows Chud's system and has potential, but he is certainly not a lock to make the roster.

Especially since he will probably receive some sort of punishment from the league for his little incident in Indy.

Smitty, Gettis, LaFell, and Armanti are all going to make the roster, which really only leaves one spot. I don't think they will keep 6 receivers.

I would prefer they keep Barnidge as a 4th TE and for special teams.

There are 4 guys who legitimately have a shot for the 5th receiver postion. Pilares is a good possibility b/c he is a draft pick, but he is eligible for the PS.

Naanee, Wallace Wright, and Charly Martin are all potentials. I think it comes down to shows the most in preseason and can contribute the most on special teams. Or they are get cut and Pilares gets the final spot.

Some people are overrating Naanee.

how are people overrating him?

the dude was a solid player on a top notch offense. he has several years of experience in the system that we are running. is saying that he is a lock to make the team overrating him? i think it's pretty reasonable to think that will be the case.

putting last year aside and going off what has been going on in TC so far, who has made the #2WR job theirs? what about #3? looks like gettis and edwards have looked good, edwards moreso, but from lafell and pilares, there hasn't been much of anything going on.

lafell, from the way it sounds, has been disappointing. very likely could be having a sophomore slump from him.still, he should be making the 53 man roster, though unless he picks things up, he won't see many active sundays.

i would say that the WRs will be smith (of course) with gettis/edwards/naanee/lafell all fighting for the #2 and #3 spots. it's going to be open competition between these guys. i can see us having one more WR on the 53 man roster, but that guy is probably going to be some STs guy like wright.

I agree with you 100% on the offensive line. But a few things. Not a chance in the world that Pugh gets cut over Considine or Payne. I do not see both Hayden and Irvin making it over Neblett. I think Hartsock was brought into block since we have 2 catching TE so he will be here and I think some people are sleeping on Wallace Wright. He was given a multi-year deal last year and is a great Special Teamer. I think it will come down to Wright and Nannee for the last spot.

Since when is 23 catches 371 yards and a touchdown solid? Lafell and Gettis played better with the worst qb in the NFL trowing to them.

He benefited from great qb play same with Malcolm Floyd.
