QB Conspiracy Theory....

I would say NE runs a variation of the WCO but we all know they are not in need of a QB.

Haven't been to training camp, but has Clausen really only been designated for intermediate routes, or is that he just doesn't have the arm strength to throw the deep ball. There's a difference between designing plays for intermediate routes and throwing to the intermediate receiver because you don't feel as comfortable throwing deep.

new england is a spread offense.

Clausen got ripped all last year for checking down to his running back in a vertical attack.

Bradford got praised all last year for checking up to his running back in a WCO.

Now right now Bradford is way ahead of Clausen, but we all saw after an entire season and with the playoffs on the line Bradford could only complete 1 pass > 10 yards vs. Seattle the entire game. They forced him to go vertical and he simply couldn't... because he was a rookie that he was still learning.... just like Clausen.

My point is that CRA is right Clausen belongs in a WCO. He could be extremely successful in the right system.

I say variation because there are a lot principles in the NE offense that resembles the WCO. Brady knows how to get the ball out quick and get receivers like Welker, Branch, and back Woodhead out in open space. Spread is more of a formation than an offensive philosophy. I watch NE more than any other team besides the Panthers.

some similarites to a WCO, but even then its been described more as an erhardt-perkins than a WCO.

at any rate, not a place for clausen.

We gotta keep Conner for LB depth.

Expecting Thomas Davis to hold down a LB spot is similar to expecting Dan Morgan to do the same later in his career. TD hasn't helped us in 2 years.

If that's a concern I'd rather pick up a FA WLB. Conner isn't a WLB, he's a MLB. He's Beason's backup, and if TD is a concern I'd rather find a backup for him and not move Beason out again if TD gets hurt. Not saying I really want Conner gone or anything, but if we could trade him for something useful, like a CB, I don't think Conner's status as a backup for Beason should make him untradeable.

The Theory - Jimmy will be traded to a west coast system in exchange for a CB.

The evidence:

- The coaching staff is only calling short quick intermediate passing plays for Jimmy.

- Jimmy cannot make the long throws required in Chud's vertical passing game.

- The Panthers drafted Cam Newton #1 overall (haven't you heard) AND they ARE calling the vertical passing plays for him, and he is nailing many of them.

Look for the Panthers to continue to call the quick easy stuff for Jimmy. Expect a healthy portion of the same in the first preseason game where Jimmy will once again look like an excellent young prospect. Remember, this season should be his first pro season if he would have stayed at ND.

His game tape will then be shopped around the league to the west coast offenses, letting everyone know we have a need for a solid CB in return.

Now if you will excuse me, I have a tin foil hat to return to PStall.

Love,

Zod

PS... That is all.

Embrace the conspiracy theory. yeeeesssss :D

Why would Philly go for Clausen? They have Mike Vick and Vince Young who have similar playing styles, Vick will be number 1 of course and Young backing him up. Then they have two younger players being 1 year pro Mike Kafka (saw no playing time) and rookie Jarrod Johnson, who will probably compete during the preseason. I say Johnson taking the third string due to him playing to a similar style to Vick and Young. No way they go for Clausen.

I suppose that the Eagles would got for a Connor and 5th round pick trade for Asante. They don't have a veteran MLB on the team right now, and I guess Connor could provide for that. Jamar Chaney had a good season, if he was to rack up the same stats (probably do better if starts all 16 games) as he did last season he'd be right at Connor's 80 career tackles. I cannot see a trade with the Eagles happening unless they just really want to get rid of Asante to clear up cap space.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
