QB Conspiracy Theory....

Zod

Recommended Posts

The Theory - Jimmy will be traded to a west coast system in exchange for a CB.

The evidence:

- The coaching staff is only calling short quick intermediate passing plays for Jimmy.

- Jimmy cannot make the long throws required in Chud's vertical passing game.

- The Panthers drafted Cam Newton #1 overall (haven't you heard) AND they ARE calling the vertical passing plays for him, and he is nailing many of them.

Look for the Panthers to continue to call the quick easy stuff for Jimmy. Expect a healthy portion of the same in the first preseason game where Jimmy will once again look like an excellent young prospect. Remember, this season should be his first pro season if he would have stayed at ND.

His game tape will then be shopped around the league to the west coast offenses, letting everyone know we have a need for a solid CB in return.

Now if you will excuse me, I have a tin foil hat to return to PStall.

Love,

Zod

PS... That is all.

Nice

normally your backup can come in and run the offense.....Clausen doesn't fit in an offense that relies on a vertical attack.
true. ideally, you want your backup player to be able to come in and be able to do essentially the same thing your starter does. clausen and newton are like night and day. there are no similarities in what they can do. if we put together two playboooks, one for each QB, then i could see it working. that would just be a nightmare for receivers to memorize, esp. if jimmy's is a walsh WCO. if clausen were to fill in for cam i can see the safeties being called in on every play like outfielders waiting for a weak batter to hit. you know he isn't going to go long.

I am not at camp so tell me if it possible that they are calling similar plays for both of them and Jimmy just always finds the short guy and dumps it off while Cam looks for the guy down the field. In other words are they having them rotate on the same set of plays which they have just installed for that day or it is really 2 different play sets.

Last year Jimmy would refuse to throw it down the field except in desperation.

i think CRA has the answer here:
maybe they are calling them for Jimmy and he is just opting to always ignore the deep route and throws to one of the shorter ones.......like he did all of last season.

i guess i got the tinfoil hat on earlier:

hopefully an audition for a desperate WCO team with a surplus of good CBs.

i dunno, but i think thats going to be an awfully short list.

not sure i can even think of 5 teams right now running the WCO at all. not a very popular offense anymore.

it isn't clowing.....all the reporters covering it have consistantly followed up there positive remarks about Jimmy claiming he still is only throwing short to mid range.....

and then they point out Cam is going all over the field.

Did you miss the post where someone said he was a boy playing a man's game and that we could not get a decent CB trading him straight up... that my friend is clowning, as well as asinine.

well, I just ignored that one.

Jimmy is smart and has tough skin....and I think he could potentially be a WC QB. I don't think we could get a decent CB for him though.....you throw him into the preseason and ask him to just do his standard dink and dunk looks......and the offense won't move just like all of last year. So I don't get that method raising his stock. The offense ain't designed for that type play to move it........that is the only problem w/ Zod's theory.

This is why you are a fan, not a personnel man. Many in the NFL feel Jimmy will be a good, solid QB if in the right system and under the right circumstances.

See they understand the kid was fuged over last year by Fox and company, mainly because he was under fox and company.

Much like the rest of your opinions, this one is baseless and laughable.

I'd ask you to dredge up a shred of proof but we both know you can't.

It's refreshing you've redirected your lunacy from the labor discussion to actual panthers news. I chased you away from one and with one and with a little luck I can do the same for the other.

I see your point. He can be displayed better than last year IMO though. If our run is working better the offense will move. A WCO staff will be looking for his ability to make the right decision to the open man and to make the accurate pass there. They will focus on that and not so much the movement of the offense as we are not a WCO. They will want his accuracy in their scheme.

There are going to be holes in every course we choose for JC but right now the idea that should prevail in reference to him is to play to his strengths until a better idea presents itself.

This is true, but this camp is unique due to the lockout. They didn't have OTA's to learn the offense. I would imagine more time is going into simply installing the offense than normally would.

They realize they need to get both QB's ready to start and are tweaking the offense for each of them to get the best out of whoever ends up starting. Not that I don't think your idea has some merit, but I question whether we could get a decent CB from any team in exchange for Jimmy. He'd need to have a REALLY good preseason for that to happen, IMO.

Yep. It's been said over and over again. They are building this team based on Cam's strengths, coaches and players. I just get the feeling that no matter what, he's our guy day 1. Maybe he puts on a new persona during NFL games that we haven't seen yet. I think that once he's in a game, he'll kick it up and notch and really impress us. Although, I am expecting to see Rookie mistakes as well. Gotta take the good with the bad. My two cents.

He'll make mistakes whenever he gets a chance to play. I expect upwards of 20 INT's if he does start from day one. He's a rookie QB who has less time than most to learn due to the lockout. He's probably going to look awful in spots.

I just hope he can show flashes of that elite ability he has. That was my biggest issue with Jimmy last year; he never showed any flashes or improvement. If Cam can do that I'll consider his rookie year a big success regardless of the mistakes he's bound to make.

in addition to that, I think Cam mindset is more to make plays vs. being safe. So if he knows he should be looking downfield and over the middle on a play.....and the small window is there he will likely pull the trigger where as Clausen would prefer to just throw it away.

He will definately have some rough games where he basically takes us out of the game.....but that is learning. Clausen being overly safe drastically hurt him improving last year.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
