QB Conspiracy Theory....

The Theory - Jimmy will be traded to a west coast system in exchange for a CB.

The evidence:

- The coaching staff is only calling short quick intermediate passing plays for Jimmy.

- Jimmy cannot make the long throws required in Chud's vertical passing game.

- The Panthers drafted Cam Newton #1 overall (haven't you heard) AND they ARE calling the vertical passing plays for him, and he is nailing many of them.

Look for the Panthers to continue to call the quick easy stuff for Jimmy. Expect a healthy portion of the same in the first preseason game where Jimmy will once again look like an excellent young prospect. Remember, this season should be his first pro season if he would have stayed at ND.

His game tape will then be shopped around the league to the west coast offenses, letting everyone know we have a need for a solid CB in return.

Now if you will excuse me, I have a tin foil hat to return to PStall.

Love,

Zod

PS... That is all.

More than likely they're calling the short/intermediate routes for Jimmy and the longer stuff for Cam because that's where each of them work best.

I thought the point of practice was to get better at things that are not your best.

This is true, but this camp is unique due to the lockout. They didn't have OTA's to learn the offense. I would imagine more time is going into simply installing the offense than normally would.

They realize they need to get both QB's ready to start and are tweaking the offense for each of them to get the best out of whoever ends up starting. Not that I don't think your idea has some merit, but I question whether we could get a decent CB from any team in exchange for Jimmy. He'd need to have a REALLY good preseason for that to happen, IMO.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
    • People here get mad when I tell them I prefer Miracle Whip over Dukes
