Taharqa in Spartanburg

Cam did have one pass that he threw late in the middle of the field about 15 yards that was tipped (would've been an INT in a real game). He was going to #89 of course but took too long to get it to him. I didnt see Cam tuck and run not once. All the drills they worked on were passing plays. So make no mistake, he's still got work ahead of him and isnt a perfect passer, but out of the QBs I saw take snaps Cam looked the best and the fans around me agreed (even the guy who was a Gamecock fan and said he hated him)

That's what I took away from Monday. I am a bit worried that maybe my look at it is a bit biased, as I have it made up in my mind that I'd rather see Cam start this year, but a lot of people (and, like you, the people around me at camp) think Cam just looks better, overall, than Clausen right now. I expect Cam to have some dumb throws and some timing issues, much like I did last year with Jimmy (I was a huge Jimmy fan till around the end of the season when frustration sank in). I just hope those growing pains aren't a repeat of last season with Jimmy.

That's the one thing that I think works in Cam's favor... I'm glad Jimmy did well today, that is a great thing for competition and for our team if he can become an asset... But, the hesitation to throw deep and play that high risk-high reward will hold him back. Cam might make some mistakes, but his willingness and ability to throw it deep could be the deciding factor going into the season opener.

Also, I've asked some of the other guys, but how did Smitty look speed wise? Still the old 89? Or looks like he's getting by more on technique and know-how?

This is probably why Cam will start day one..you need to be able to air it out in order to go Air Coryell..the offense last year was also build for vertical threat but once again Clausen's range is very short. Teams could still stack the box if they didn't have to worry about any long passes. Unless we have a West Coast package just for the Jimmeh I don't expect him to do well enough in the one place he needs to.

Most people today reported that Jimmy vastly outperformed Cam tonight with what might have been his best practice as a pro.

Heard Cam was off tonight.

Was also said jimmy didn't throw it past 20 yards..all slants and crossing routes..he belongs in san fran lol

Bingo. Anything under 20 yards, he looked good. Found Shockey and Barnridge consistently. But when he was asked to put air under the ball and go deep, he didnt perform as well. Clausen is also noticeably smaller than the other QBs. Pike, Cam, & DA look like giants standing next to Jimmy.

Well, when I read those, I was excited. I thought, "well, this QB competition is getting interesting now." But after hearing a majority of his throws were inside 20 yards and check downs, I was like "meh." Not that I mind taking the safe throws when they are there, but it didn't work last season...and the team isn't that much different this year (minus the experience).

One thing I noticed about Jimmy Monday (besides a LOT of bad plays/turnovers/sacks) was that all but 3 of his passes (precise number) were check downs within 5 yards of the LOS or in the backfield. THAT won't get it done for 16 games.

I've been racially profiled and pulled over too. It fuging sucks. Got cuffed, sat on the curb and they searched my truck. If they claim probable cause, and ask me to step outside of my vehicle, I have to comply, so don't say "don't you know your rights?! Blah blah blah". Obviously you have never been in that situation before. It's quite demeaning.

In other news, thanks for the update KT, though the actual camp update was shorter than your cop story...

Oh please let them claim probable cause and cuff me.

hopefully an audition for a desperate WCO team with a surplus of good CBs.

i dunno, but i think thats going to be an awfully short list.

not sure i can even think of 5 teams right now running the WCO at all. not a very popular offense anymore.
