If Clausen starts and does well, will you boo him anyway?

You should go check out their first year stats!

As a final project in my intro to computers class, I did a statistical comparison of the quarterbacks drafted since 2008.

FYI..Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco both had 11-5 teams. Both with rookie head coaches.

Mark Sanchez reached the AFC Championship as a rookie. (Wasnt Rex a rookie head coach then too?)

Manning wasnt in my research, but he set multiple rookie records.

In my research, Bradford did the best statistically despite a 7-9 record.

So are you trying to say they all sucked and should have "sat and learned"? :out:

This is in direct contrast to the new passing statistics introduced recently by either ESPN or the NFL (can't remember which) that showed Bradford significantly below his passer rating because of YAC (yards after catch) by receivers. For conext, his running back Jackson had twice as many passing yards as any WR and those were really dinks with big YAC.

Joe Flacco

Matt Ryan

Mark Sanchez

Sam Bradford

Who did they "sit and learn" from?

Those guys were all drafted to be the starter. Could you Tell me who their competition was when they got drafted? As such Sitting and Learning only applies when you draft to fill a future need or when you draft to bring in more competition. We happen to fit the Sitting and Learning mold but we can also let Cam start if he outright wins it.

IF Clausen OUT PLAYS Cam Newton?

Yeah, I guess it is possible. IF Cam gets really, really drunk an hour before the game, gets hit by a car going into the stadium, breaks a leg falling down some stairs, and loses an eye to those injuries...........I GUESS Clausen might be able to out play him that day.

They all say hi. The history of the NFL shows that, most of the time, if you let your QB sit and learn before throwing him out there, he has the opportunity to become very very good and not broken when thrown to the wolves. The whole rookies doing well thing isn't very common when you stop and think about it.

Today's NFL is different and evolving. Sitting is the way of the past.

Sanchez, Ryan, Flacco, Bradford, Stafford, Big Ben, Freeman.....you are now expected to play year 1.

The past 5 years show a distinct shift. Name the 1st rounders in the last 5 yrs that have sat. Even if you look at the past, the success rate is about the same for high draft picks regardless if they sit or not.

the game is changing, and in a lot of aspects, not for the better.. (i.e., player safety out of control, talkin about 18 games, defensive penalties changed)

the NFL is changing in the same way the music industry has.. just because "what works now didn't work then" doesn't mean its' the best quality or best method.

Brett favre sucked during his rookie season and rebounded in a HUGE way in a new system in greenbay. If something goes off in clausens head and he blows up im all for it because then we can trade him for a high pick or a good player.

Favre had 4 pass attempts his rookie year. Not exactly the best Clausen comparison considering he started 10 games with 299 pass attempts on the year.

I hope if he starts he plays his ass off. I think people are excited about Cam but I just want to win. My allegiance is to the Panthers, not Cam Newton.

People booing him are just as insidious as those who are denigrating Cam Newton after every incomplete pass he has thrown.

I am pulling for both these guys to play well. I think Cam represents infinite more potential that Clausen and think he is a bigger playmaker or big play threat even if Clausen is tossing the football a little more consistently in practice.

But if the PTB decide to start Clausen and Clausen becomes the second coming of Troy Aikmen, no one will be happier about it than me.
