Hurney on WFNZ today discusses CB situation

If we really wanted to get him I suspect we could get him. We haven't tried to sign Gross to a long term contract which would free up millions, cut anybody except for Kasay or restructure anybody at this point. I think that they will bring in someone once teams have to get below the cap and after first or second cuts. But like usual it won't be a big name or expensive guy. It will be someone who is good for our system but is undervalued.

Well, we haven't cut anyone b/c just about all the fat was trimmed last offseason.......

If they bring in a decent guy when cuts start I might change my tune....I don't need a big name.

Good point about Gross, didn't think about that.

Maybe it's because of my intense "dislike" for Atlanta, but my biggest concern is that even for a rookie Jones will smoke our secondary. I'm sure Meeks will have him doubled,... of course it's not like Matty dosen't have other weapons to throw to.

The whole philosophy we have in Carolina is to build through the draft rather than sign big name free agents. Occasionally we deviate from that with guys like Olsen and Shockey when our own homegrown efforts fail. Still it seems to me that before we decide that our secondary is going to be awful, lets see what happens this year. Meeks is a defensive secondary guru, lets see what he can do when he can focus on just that area. After all even with a crappy pas rush our pass defense hasn't been that bad the past few years.

Cap is just too damn small. The Giants game where Hakeem Nicks destroyed us comes to mind.

Antoine Winfield was small and was a probowler and considered the hardest hitting CB in the NFL for years. Look if he is fast, moves well and can jump who cares what his height is.

If we start the season with Gamble, McClain, and Captain as our starting corners, we are in serious trouble.

If so, I doubt I will even watch the Colts game... lol

lol, people saying Gamble sucks.

He's one of the top best cover corners in the NFL, and his picks are sick. He had a rough ending through the season last year. He will bounce back.

And from what I hear Brandon Hogan is done, his knee is no where near ready for this season. What a waste of a pick. We got this big gaping hole at CB that we are expecting a camp body to fill? This is ridiculous.

be patient young grasshoper, he'll be ready when he's ready
