Cam's accuracy

Is anyone else concerned about Cam's accuracy? When has a QB ever entered the NFL with below average accuracy for a QB at the NFL level and turned into a dynamic passer? Accuracy is something that shouldn't be a question for a #1 draft pick. I've seen posts comparing him to Vick and Steve Young, but he reminds me much more of a The Golden Calf of Bristol or VY. Vick and Young were/are accurate passers with great running ability. I see Cam/VY/The Golden Calf of Bristol as great runners with below avg accuracy.

I believe Cam can extend drives and help win games because of his running ability, but to take the Panthers to the level we want to be, I'm doubtful. Unless you have an unbelievable defense, winning the Super Bowl requires a really good passing game in the modern day NFL. Can accuracy be developed that much at this point? It seems to me most QBs either have it by the time they reach the NFL or they never do. I see Cam having a VY type record as a starting QB which is good, but I'd be suprised to see him turn into an elite passer.

Cam has no accuracy issues.

Cam always throws the ball to the perfect spot, the receivers are just in the wrong spot most of the time. It's their fault.

Cam is the best passer college football has ever seen and in no way were those numbers influenced by throws behind the LOS and his receivers doing all the work.

I expect Cam to be the best passer in the NFL.

Look at McNabb's success in Philly....how many winning seasons and how many postseason runs did they have? How was his accuracy?

Cam has tons of talent. He has no accuracy issues going deep. He might not be Peyton Manning but I am not overally concerned......sure it isn't great but he should improve as time goes on. He knows he has to work on his accuracy short and mid range......he has enough talent and a skill set to offset that negative to some a large degree.

How did this guy get past the 100 post minimum? Is it a bug in the new Huddle App?

As to the OP... No I am not concerned about his accuracy. You cannot compare Cam to VY or The Golden Calf of Bristol. 20 something teams passed on The Golden Calf of Bristol, if we passed on Cam, he wouldn't of made it out of the top 5. Vince Young is just Vince Young, a mentally unstable player who's internal problems caused his career to go sideways. Cam's a hard worker, and if he has a flaw in his passing game, I'm sure he will work his A$$ off to get it better. He has my support, and I am very excited to see him destroy the Giants on August 13th.

I agree with TRD. Cam's long ball looks to be pretty accurate and as the receivers get more comfortable running their routes, his accuracy should improve. Can't wait.

McNabb was in a completely different offense.

The bolded part is just outrageous.

McNabb may have been in a different offense.....he was not even close to being considered an accurate passer though. The need for accuracy is probably more important for his offense. His other postive aspects help offset the fact he struggled making tons of throws that are generally required to run that offense.

Cam has a great deep ball. He has always had a good feel and placement on those throws. Sorry TRD, but there are postives to his game. It ain't all doom and gloom.

    • I saw that too--and what you said made sense because there is something like that in the rules--said that he is unlikely to get picked up (and I was not suggesting that we do) and Jones wants to go to a winning team.   After getting beaten to death in NY behind a sub par OL, poor WRs, and brutal fan base, I get it.
    • True.  Sam and Baker did not do well here but went on to better things under better coaching, circumstances or both.  The real question is, ‘why aren’t the Panthers able to get improved performance out of ‘broken toys’, similar to Minnesota and Tampa? That is a rhetorical question.  I think we know the answer.   [The cultural reference to Pogo dates me, I’ll admit.]
    • Did I mention that he was on worse teams?  Yes.  Do QBs alone win games?  No.  Did Cam, on a much better team with some awesome defenses ever have 2 consecutive winning seasons?  No.  So now you are cherry picking,  If the overall stats are similar, you take a look at him.   I told you that you look at his skill set---but you wanted to tell me that he sucks and mentioned performance.  I just presented performance--and his numbers are very similar to Cam Newton's numbers--a player most call the best Panther QB ever--and I agree.  By the way, Fumbles are evidence of how bad his OL has been--so you are saying that a QB in a situation worse than Cam's who has stats and physical abilities very similar to Cam's should not be given a look when you have Bryce Young at QB?  You are going with that story because you simply talked your way into a corner and now you are trying to save face.  No good GM would do what you suggest because "he sucks."  Sorry, but the facts do not support you.  But no matter what eye-opening details I provide, there are some who are going to go their Google machines to try to find some reason to support an ignorant approach to developing the QB position.  You ignored the similarities to Cam and went cherry picking.  I know what you are doing--but I am only suggesting (as I have stated before) that we bring him in as one of three approaches to resolving the QB issue. Compete with Bryce and draft a QB. Basically, I am suggesting that Jones has the potential to replace Dalton and compete with Young.  He is a battered stock that could get better in a better situation--that is human nature.  Instead, I am called a Daniel Jones lover and superfan.  That is good debate--But a real sign of mature thinking is the inability to LOGICALLY consider alternative perspectives--which is actually a characteristic of intelligence.  Just so you know, I critique and perform research in my job.  I am often amazed at how the numbers do not support my suppositions.  I learned that my impression is often wrong until I look at the data.  In this case, I have considered all the important variables and he should get a shot.  Numbers don't lie--and when you and others resort to twisted name calling directed toward the poster--it verifies my position.
