I guess it's down to Kelvin Hayden or a CB that is cut

Hayden would still be our best option at #2 corner. Honestly, I don't think Rivera has any clue how weak our secondary is in a division with three of the best quarterbacks in the league. Mistake #1 for Ron, he's worried about finding a 3rd string QB but he isn't gonna address this glaring need. Get Hayden, he can adapt.

Don't forget, not only is Ron Meeks still here, but he's the defensive backfield coach now. He's well aware of the other three QB's in the NFCS, as well as the skill level of our Cb's. I'm sure if he and Rivera feel the need to add someone they will, but if they are comfortable with what they have, we as fans should be too.

what was the gist of the stance/plan?

I was only half listening because I was too busy cussing the guy in front of me who refused to pull into traffic eventhough it was a yield sign but...

He was kind of dancing around the issue of course and wasn't real specific (in fact they had to ask him twice) but he did acknowledge that it was something they were keeping an eye on and that they need to be smart with their money now. Said when CBs are available they do inquire with their agents to see what the going rate might be. Mac (host) was pushing for them to go after Asante but that didn't sound like a possiblity.

Yes we know much more about Defense than Ron Rivera. :willy_nilly:

I think this all the time. Even the most reputable posters with a 23948234823 rep who thinks they know it all about football prob doesn't even hold a candle to the asstant to the assitant position coaches. Yet they act like their ideas are fact.

I can see it now Pantherguy28! Panthers take the field against the Falcons and upon seeing. Matt Ryan, Roddy White, and Julio Jones, coach Rivera will utter

"Dammit, why didn't the Carolina Huddle forum tell me that these three were on the same team?

I would have gotten another fugging CB had I known!"

At least some of y'all can say y'all warned himm right? Clear conscience! I love iit....high fives?

Bro, Coach Rivera has been waiting on this opportunity for years. He had free time during the long NFL lockout, I am sure he knows everything about this team and teams in the division.

What people need to remember is that this season is a true rebuilding year for us. It's not one where we have to address every single need this season. When you start reaching and overpaying for needs, thats when you can hurt yourself down the road. Clearly we are building for the future and not for right now.

Maybe Coach feels there are young players on the team he can work with and develop at the position. People always ragged on Fox for not giving the young guys a chance... Maybe Coach Rivera feels that this is a season he can work with and give our young corners good training and experience. If it works out, great we have our young corner without having to break the bank. If it doesn't then we have next season to go out an improve the position.

I'm sure they will inquire, but wanting to be conservative with the cap space we have left, they might not see a value FA CB pickup that will also work with what we are trying to do now and for the future.

Be patient and relax. Just like Coach knew we needed a TE for the offense... He didn't go out a splurge on Zack Miller. He waited until he found value, a good fit, something in line with long term plans, and capitalized on it!

Here is the difference. We picked up Shockey before the Olsen trade. We also signed Ben Hartsock. With the CB position, we drafted one that can't play in the 4th round and let our second string leave in free agency. We still have not addressed the issue. This is a major red flag and cause for concern. At least with DT, we picked up a vet and drafted 2 that can play this year.
