D-Day for Jimmy (and DA): August 12

Me thinks the OP puts a bit too much value into preseason play...

Quote from 8-13-2010

the people who praised Clausen's preseason.....mainly praised his dumping down to RBs and throwing it out of bounds. They deemed it smart play.....it was just different than the Jake Delhomme's kamakazi style play is all....didn't make it good.

2 mentions of check downs in the thread I linked and one was a criticism.

ETA No mention of him throwing it out of bounds

not in that thread.....but Clausen did it often in the preseason and people praised it as smart and savy play from a rookie "who got it". That is just Jimmy....noticed one of the beat writers pointed out he was still doing in yesterday in practice.

Ive followed Auburn all last year. Cam was pretty innaccurate the first few games of the season, but that changed big time as the season went on. I think by the time the regular season starts, he will have found a better rythem with the recievers. The only hurdle left will be reading defences.....

Thas my B-day...so B-day during D-day?

The 12th or the 13th?

As for it being Clausen's D-Day - honestly I thought the writing was on the wall after the draft. You don't take a QB with the #1 overall pick if you're happy with what you already have in the stable.

It's only a matter of time until he loses his job to Newton.

Oh and whoever said 1 pre-season game doesn't decide someone's fate is absolutely correct. If Clausen lights up the scoreboard and Newton fumbles every snap in two weeks' time does that mean that he's a bust and Clausen is awesome? Of course not. It's a learning process, nothing more.

Was thinking the opposite. Jimmy has already lost it with a historically bad year. Its Jimmy's to win, if he doesn't win its Cam time.

I'm only saying it's Jimmy's to lose, because he is basically a rookie again this year (new system, much more talent around him.) Only difference is that he has played NFL games already and more accustomed to the speed of the game.

It's Jimmy's job to lose. Right now he has the advantage on Cam. The GAMES, not practice, will show who the real starter is.

Right now I would say Cam has the advantage.....but that doesn't mean Carolina won't present Cam in a scenario where he isn't in the #2 role for the moment and likely first preseason game.

Clausen has started 10 NFL games....and it is already being reported Cam looks to be the better QB overall per reporters following the camp. Also, going on they want Cam to be the starter ideally....

Jimmy would have to win the job. It is Cam's to lose.
