Everette Brown

Recommended Posts

A. Just going to recycle this:

Here is a quick chart (sorted by sacks obviously) comparing Everette Brown's stats vs every DE drafted in the 1st round in the past three years:

EB.png

Keep in mind the only two DE's on the list we could have drafted even if we would have kept our original picks would be Lawrence Jackson and Jerry Hughes. Getting Jackson would mean either no Stewart or no Otah of course. Note Jackson recorded 6 sacks for the Lions. He was originally drafted by the Seahawks.

Another often forgotten point is none of these first round DE's came as a packaged deal with a RB that amassed 762 total yards from scrimmage and 3 TD's.

And to save you the time of looking it up before you post who you were screaming for Hurney to draft, rookie Carlos Dunlap was the best young DE (regardless of round) drafted in the last 3 years sacks wise with 9.5.

So, in short, we'd all like to see Brown produce a bit more (and stay healthy), but he's certainly doing better than average for a 1st rounder.

PS: Orakpo is basically a OLB now, thus the inflated tackle #'s.

B. Can we wait till, say, the 3rd preseason game to list him as a complete wash up for this year?

He just does not fit the system anymore. Small and fast is in the past and we need DEs that can play the run well.

Notable DE's on our Roster:

Charles Johnson

Greg Hardy (Recently tore of all his skin in a biking accident)

Everette Brown

Eric Norwood (even smaller then Brown)

Mystery Man X??? (how intriguing!!)

I dunno who he is under threat of losing his roster spot too.

We have first pick at wavers. I would think that they are going to pick someone up from there, at CB as well. Still your right we are weak at DE so he might stick as a jack LB but I just dont see much production out of him in this system. Its the reason we are seeing the 3-4 more and more because its easier to draft a LB than it is to draft a DE.

It's not foolproof, but how a player looks in camp is often a good indicator of how good they'll be in the regular season. I don't have high hopes for him.

It's not foolproof in the fact that he looked like he was about to have a breakout year last preseason? Or not foolproof in the fact that we're judging him after a handful of practices this year?
