Truly speaking - how much of last year's inept play was due to John Fox?

fwiw buckner flat out said that fox was telling injured players not to rush back.

I would commend Foxy for keeping it real with his players then... Why should they rush back? For what? Risk their career when it was obvious to him that the FO could care less about the season... Good for Foxy!

We all forget that he was a player's coach.. It's also obvious that he wasnt every players' coach based on the DeAngelo video the other day..which was freakin hilarious!

Why is it when we have a new coach and new (better) players fans can't get stop blaming Fox?

Seems very insecure.

same reason over 1/2 the fans here think we'll be lucky to win over 5 games next year...

They don't know very much about Football...but are EXPERT poo talkers!

philosophy and management.

fox had an old school mentality that failed to recognize the game was fundamentally changing around him. he stood staunchly in the way of his team being able to progress. he liked the way things were and did everything he could to keep things that way. i think he felt he had the ideal team in '03 and wanted to keep it that way, using the same players if he could.

he didn't like developing players. he took the (lazy?) approach of going with players who had years of experience even if the player behind them had more talent and the one starting was beginning to show signs of slowing down and ineffectiveness.

he was risk averse and change averse. he didn't like taking chances and in those rare moments that he dared to let someone try something different if it didn't work right away you'd never see them try that again (with the exception of their embarrassing attempts at the wildcat that never worked). he didn't like changing things either. not only did he want to keep doing the same thing year after year with the same people, he wanted to walk into a game with one idea and one plan and follow it through, regardless of it's effectiveness. if you played the a team twice in a year, the game plan would be the same both times.

the biggest and most painful example of that was when they played the cardinals in the playoffs. he said afterwards that they decided to play them the same way they did earlier in the year when they soundly beat them. forget that the other team would have thought that they might want to try something different since it didn't work the first time. in those rare moments that he did change the gameplan, it was usually too late, much like that same cards playoff game.

fox also wasn't ruthless enough, imo. he wanted to keep games too close and more often than not, that bit him in the butt. he was too nice of a competitor and too nice as a coach.

there is more i could say about fox, but that is probably enough.

i also hold management responsible as well. if you have an employee who isn't performing as expected, you step in and find out what is wrong and make him fix it. if he doesn't fix it then you find someone else who can. they waited too long on fox. they should have stepped in earlier than they did and they probably could have handled it better when they did.

anyway...he's finally gone. it's something i have wanted for years. time to move on. i think we have in a really big way.

I don't think Fox really had the team he wanted last year. Developing rookie qb's and wr's is not his forte. I think that he would have preferred bringing in a veteran QB, getting some vet receivers, and if we did that, we probably would have been competitive. But that wasn't the direction management wanted, and Fox realized he wasn't the direction management wanted. I do think he tried his best to win every week, but there really wasn't much of a chance.

a fox led team is always going to be mediocre in it's style; it's the execution that needs to be perfect..that's why he liked old guys that new what to do over talent that could make plays outside his style..you are never going to get back to back winning seasons playing this way and richardson finally saw the the light. hopefully we are now about teaching our young guys to play great, not just the way a stubborn coach wants them to.

We could have a dramatic turnaround, but historically, it doesn't happen often, especially with rookie Qbacks. 5-7 wins is realistic.

Name ANY team that has ever had the first pick with as much talent as we have!?

I'll wait.....

oh and btw... that rookie QB you referred to in your post is Cam Fuggin Newton!

dont you forget it

true, but that isn't a bad thing. the team he wanted was a bunch of old guys falling apart playing an old system that didn't work anymore.
