I've already been through this... To make a long story short, I believe in this coaching staff and these players! The optimism is like something I've never seen before in a camp... Due to lockout? Maybe. Our head coach just said WOW when asked about how ^He thought Cam was doing... I mean when's the last time u heard that poo about ANY QB in this league?

Uh, pretty much about every first round pick QB ever? No coach has ever came in and said that the QB they just picked up is anything other than awesome. Cable said the same thing about JaMarcus Russell when he was throwing the ball 900 yards downfield during the Raider's first practices.

Offense: healthy line for a change (knocked on wood just now)

OL has been healthy at the beginning of the year pretty much every year, that's the nature of the beast. 6 weeks from now this may not be true. Also, injuries to the OL are non-predictive year-to-year, so having a healthy OL is mostly luck, not a guarantee.

Young receivers that are hungry and talented, oh and then there's a guy named Steve Smith.

Steve hasn't made it through a full season uninjured in a while. Every young receiver in the NFL is hungry and talented, you don't get to the NFL being anything other than that. Not a predictor of production.

TE's.... Two of them that have proven they can play at a High level in this league

One of them is also old and hasn't played a full season in a while either. Olsen is an upgrade, though.

RB's... Best backfield in the NFL period!

Debatable on the period, but Top 5 I'd definitely agree. Fiammetta really needs to step up this year.

QB... Cam Newton. While ^He hasn't officially thrown an NFL pass, there has never been a QB coming into the NFL with so much scrutiny surrounding him... What's more? He is a proven leader at every level... And all signs at camp are echoing this...

How is coming into the league with so much scrutiny surrounding him a postive in any way? Have you never heard of highly scrutinized rookies failing because of the high pressure put on them by...unrealstic fans?

Our offense will put up serious points this year...

We were 32nd in the league last year with this exact same offense minus Greg Olsen, Cam Newton and a healthy Otah. The offense will improve, yes, but those 3 additions do not in any way guarantee "serious points".

Defense... This is what Ron Rivera, Meeks, and Mcdermott are known for... This is like the dreamteam coaching staff on D!

Guess what, pretty much every DC or former DC in the NFL is known for their Defense! That's why they are coaching at an NFL level! None of them are lightyears ahead of any other DC in the league.

Line--- still missing a DT (my opinion) and we really dint have a bookend DE for CJ...

Yup, so our line is a guy that got 12 sacks last year and a dollop of Hope.

LB's--- Best LB core in the NFL... If they can stay healthy it will get NASTY!

TD may or may not come back to his previous level of play, but with or without him the LBs are still pretty good. Means little if the DLine can't keep OLinemen off of them.

DB's-- got some depth at safety... Gamble, and Munnerlyn as Nickel. We still need a solid 2 corner...

In a division with Ryan, Brees and Freemen and games against guys like Rogers and Manning, this might be a little problem, you think? May need a solid 1 corner if Gamble continues to play like he did last year. Also our "depth" at safety just means we have a bunch of interchangable, average players right now, not an actual above-average group of safeties.

Tbh, I'm not really worried about our D though... If we can stay healthy we'll be fine... (but why TCF?)

Because we have some of the nastiest defensive coaches all on one team... If u think that we will not have the personnel that they think they need you are mistaken! If we don't pick anybody up... It's because they believe we don't needs them. Will I question it? Of course I will, but they know way more about those guys than we ever will when it comes to judging talent.

The same thing is said about DCs and former DCs all over the league, because there is not a huge gap in coaches around the league. Much, much less of a gap then between Brady/Manning/Brees and a rookie QB, for example.

Addressing the notion on the implementation of two new philosophies on both sides of the ball... Yes we are at a disadvantage.... But our guys are motivated, both players and coaches alike... They are hungry!

Every team in the league is hungry, and you already admitted we're at a disadvantage because of implementing new D and O.

Will there be blown civerages? I hope not but yeah, there will be. This is NOT last year though where our defense will be on the field for 75% of each game... We will be able to extend drives just because of Cam's athleticism... Our defense will be nasty, Beason said so himself!

Extending a few drives does not take our offense from 32nd to a level necessary for 10 wins. It will help our defense, but it was firmly Average last year, and getting off the field a little more might bring it up to Above Average. However, our weakness against the pass is going to limit how good the D can be.

Beason said the same thing about the defense in 2010 and in 2009, it's called "talking to reporters".

These guys all have chips on their shoulders... We have a few UDFA's that will probably contribute right away as well... I'm not banking on this by any means though...

UDFA's almost never contribute "right away" and we will not have "a few" that do. Teams are lucky to get one UDFA that can start on special teams, much less contribute in a meaningful way on O or D. But you're not banking on this, so I don't know why you mentioned it anyway.

Bottom line is if Cam stays healthy... Then yeah, I see 10 wins as a real possibility... If He goes down we are FUGGED! Period! We downgraded as far as backups go IMO.. It's arguable though because Moore has never had as good a statistical year as Anderson. It's early and Pickle still is pickle...

And yes I think that Cam makes that much of a difference... Without him we're lucky to win 5 or 6 games... For real! But with him... It keeps our defense off the field and resting, able to adapt to the opposing offense and get extra coaching to adjust to the attack.

Go read a Raider's board circa-2007 and you'll see the exact same comments about a certain guy named JaMarcus Russell! A rookie QB coming in and excelling is exceedingly rare, and Cam staying healthy or not will have little impact on our W-L. In fact a "game manager" like Anderson might perform a little better then Cam this year with the cast we have. That's not to say Cam won't be good, I think he will, but banking on it in his rookie season is "over the top."

I think we will take a lot if people by surprise... No coach will tell their team, well boys... Carolina was 2-14 last year... Let's go smack em down and get ready for next week. We have demanded the respect and rightfully so...

Wait, so you say we'll take them by surprise but then say that no coach will tell his team to take us lightly, they'll respect us? Respecting our team and preparing for us is the opposite of being surprised...

The sad part is that our fans dont even respect our own team. It's safer to go with the popular sentiment at times.

Predicting a low number of wins has nothing to do with respect and everything to do with realism, logic and a sense of porportion.

do we have an incredible amount of talent? sure..

and if you left it at that, we'd be on the same page..

We love to talk football and I'm sure you do too but telling people to find a new team because they only see 5 wins is absurd and over the top.

You have a more optimistic approach thinking our new systems and our QB will gel perfectly and that's fine. This team DOES have a lot of talent but also a lot of questions. You can't ignore the questions and think all hte potential will happen, just like you can't ignore the potential and think all the negative will happen.

It's a balance.

If you were more balanced, all would be good.
