Yas: Mixed reviews on Cam Newton's Debut

There is ONE legit starter on that list. Vick that you mention had to go to prison, then sit for a full year to learn to do what I am hoping Chud is making Cam do now, become a QUARTERBACK, not a running back that throws.

All the rest did nothing including Teebow. And if you think that is the entire list, you are way mistaken. That is just a few off the top of my head.

Again lets just stop the denial BS. I am all behind Cam, I want him to succeed, from what I am hearing from him I am optimistic, but REALITY is the odds are stacked and he will have to buck a long standing trend. But I will say this, if he tries to be the pure dual threat he was in College, he will fail.

Oh and technically you are right, its only a 92.3% fail rate with the 13 I listed so far. So far being jury out on Cam and Teebow.

And looking at your list, does that mean I get to include guys like Jason White on my "Pocket QB" rebuttal? Cause I can get some pretty high fail percentage numbers that way as well.

Same can be said about those claiming he will be the greatest of all time. ;)

Sometimes I wonder if anyone ever learned anything about Cam besides the highlight reels of his running plays. The guy has serious QB tools. If you compare him to early Michael Vick, Cam is a way better prospect. Because Cam is much taller he has great vision. Vick can't even see over his own linemen so he can't throw from a tight pocket, he has to move around into passing lanes. Cam has a huge arm and doesn't even have to be set to unload any pattern. Vick has a big arm but his accuracy is always a concern. Cam's play action in college was very deceptive and he had no trouble learning the playbook. Vick carried the ball like a loaf of bread and was very undisciplined. Cam is very disciplined and shows great leadership. Cam pumps up his teammates and his excitement is infectious. Vick is aloof and ran with his dope smokin' posse instead of memorizing the playbook and watching film, even when he was with the Falcons. Cam spent time off in the film room, working out and mentoring 'problem' grammar school kids. Talent, character, intelligence and leadership Cam is way above Vick in every category. Vick matches up in foot speed but nothing else.

Why did you quote me? I didn't say anything about Vick.

Well I'll say something about Vick..if he would have had the drive to be great like Mr. Newton appears to have..he'd still be on the Falcons and probably have a ring with him..Players like Vick, Randy Moss etc. all have this problem of freakish talent but no desire to use it 100% of the time.

Right now Cam has great talent, and he has great self motivation to be a legend(icon anyone?). I certainly wouldn't bet against him.

I've been supporting him since the pick was made, but I still want to see him against live NFL defenses before I go as gaga over him as some of you guys (and yes, I know he's a rookie and will make mistakes - I'm not going to think he's a failure after his first pick). He's doing everything right and I don't expect that to change, but he's still got a lot to work on.

As to if I think we should have made a different draft choice, I haven't bothered to think about it since the draft but at that point I wanted a DT or CB. Don't really care now, he's on the team and he's got my full support.

Same here. I was a Gabbert supporter throughout the draft process, but since we have drafted Cam, I give him my 100% support, and glad we drafted him. He is a panther now and excited about his potential.

On the flipside, I heard Gabbert is tearing it up at the Jaguars training camp.. he had only 1 incomplete pass the whole first day of practice.. that's unbelievable.

lol @ hater being deemed an immature word.

Didn't hear anyone complaining at the Playa Hater's Ball this year?

it pretty much explains exactly what you are doing. Hating for one reason or another.

Cam IS a huge guy. Compared to Jimmy, its almost laughable.

Olsen is also just absolutely massive. Steve looked like a little mini figurine standing next to them yesterday.

Duke Robinson= MASSIVE.

Fwiw, Steve Young was a dual threat QB. He didn't run much (and when you are throwing it to Jerry Rice, why would you run), but he was pretty good at it when he did.

Steve Young could run a little bit, but he didn't exactly strike fear into DC's with that aspect of his game. Cam is gonna change the way teams defend the Panthers. I guarantee you that.
