Who will be our week one starter

Happy Panther

It probably will, and should, be Anderson. His familiarity with the system alone gives him a substantial advantage, and I really don't think he's as bad as his time in Arizona implied. I think the loss of Todd Haley took the wind out of the sails of Arizona's offense even more than anything else. I'm not saying Anderson is a world beater, but he did have a good year under Chud in Cleveland one year with FAR inferior talent than we have on offense.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Cam come in by the bye week.

Keep in mind, Anderson has never had two top tier RBs, a top tier (but past his prime) TE, a possible top tier young TE, and a top tier WR to work with....the best he's ever had was a decent Braylon Edwards + potential top tier TE K2 in Cleveland and Fitzgerald + nobody else in Arizona.

I definitely agree with this philosphy ... DA has never had the supporting cast he has in CLT, so I feel if he is going to "compete" he will likely be the starter for at least the beginning of the season. If DA smells the opportunity he has fallen into and works hard, he could excel in this situation better than anyone! I think the coaching staff clearly stated to him he was NOT being brought into settle on a backup role, but to compete... if he does just that, we could have a better year under him than I feel we would under putting Cam in week 1 (throwing him to the wolves).

I hope and do think Cam has the potential to be a great QB, but he really needs some time to digest all the information and process things. We all have heard it before, "things move much faster in the NFL". Last thing we need to do is let Cam loose just now, it would be to his detriment if we did! He could end up on IR by week 4. It would serve him the best if we can get DA on the field for the first 4-8 games at a minimum.

If DA takes off, so be it ... let's ride that wave as long as we can ... Cam will have his day eventually, no need to rush but foster the individual to be successful once he has his opportunity and he will get his opportunity!

if you ignore the TE upgrade.....this is the same supporting cast for the most part that "doomed Clausen to fail and was a main reason he was so horrifically bad"........plus Fox.

Cam is athletic enough he can lean on that while he learns.

Well I can agree with that somewhat, but my comment was also inclusive of the many coaching changes as well.

We should have a more agreesive defense that is capable of limiting scoring now and also have an offensive plan that could generate points, and not always coming from behind. This will allow us the take a chance 2nd down sometimes and setup some big plays.

The addition of the TE's are a key addition that will help both the passing game and running game. If DA is afforded to execute his knowledge of the system, he may just suprise a few people that are trashing him up on this board.

A rejuvenated Smitty helps, additionally we have a few WR's that could have a sleeper/breakout type of season. There is just a really good balance to this team this year that I haven't seen in the past... we have always had a QB that is not quite a Top 5 / Pro Bowler or just one WR standout, but not really a tandem threat... always an O-line that doesn't have depth and/or key injuries by week4 ... this year seems really balanced and I'm liking it!

been saying this all along.

unless someone is significantly better than newton, newton will be the starter day 1.

as long as he has a good solid grasp on the playbook, keeps learning and improving every day, he responds to coaching and the players respond to him...he'll be fine.

I know one thing...you won't see Coach clapping on the sidelines and patting asses over a fuggin field goal like Foxy. He may be cracking skulls instead for a missed opportunity. Go coach. Love to watch you get in our defense's face. Stay on them until you squeeze every bit of talent out of them. We have some studs but they need better direction.
