Panthers signing Derek Anderson

Recommended Posts

Anderson was decent for one year, then after that went downhill, it's not the system, he just over or under throws passes, he's not on the same page with his WRs and being a rookie had ALOT to do with Clausen's issues. Why is it that Clausen has no excuse for how poor he was, but Anderson is getting a pass because "the offense didnt fit him." As i recall, he was a free agent and chose to sign with Arizona last year, if the offense didnt fit, why go there??? he has NO excuse for his poor play, he played in a poor division with good recievers in place and good coaching. Anderson just isnt good and i rather see Clausen start than Anderson, With Anderson, i cant see us beating Arizona.

Clausen not having the skills set for Fox's offense had the most to do w/ it.....and was a main reason he wasn't just bad but historically bad.

Chud's offense asks a lot of the same from a QB as Fox's. Clausen's skill set ain't gonna change this year.

Anderson knows the offense, at least has the mentallity to play in Chud's scheme, and can aid in the playbook and looks for Cam.

i think Delhomme would've been better though because he's been a starter for years and knows the nfl. Anderson has started one full season.

Not now....Anderson knowing the playbook makes him a better 1 yr tudor strictly in terms of learning Chud's offense.

FWIW, Derek Anderson couldn't cut it in Cleveland, couldn't keep a starting job in Arizona. He's had no success in this league.

I'd rather we bring Delhomme back than bring in this scrub.

Anderson had a winning record in Chud's system.

Anderson went to a Pro Bowl in that scheme......so he has had some success.

What does "historically bad" mean?

As in the worst QB in the history of the NFL?

I'm confused as to why you keep saying "historically bad"

I agree, he didnt have the skill set for Fox's offense, BUT i think he could change with Chud's only because he is now playing for ANOTHER team, he is trying to show other team's that he can play, no other team will give Anderson another shot. i think Clausen could surprise if he starts, this honestly is Newton's team, but while we are waiting for Newton, let Clausen start and see if he has anything to show.

Anderson may know the playbook, but he thinks he can start, he's a turnover machine just like Jake, except he's younger. ADD to this, Delhomme has started more games than Derek and is familiar with the Carolina area and is older and has also helped mentor Colt McCoy, so i think he's a good mentor. Anderson hasnt proved to be a good mentor yet.

Historically bad means -

299 regular season pass attempts - 0 TDs to WRs (10 starts, 13 games)

341 NFL pass attempts in the year - 0 TDs to WRs (includes Preseason)

hit a streak of 175 consecutive pass attempts in the regular season without throwing a TD.

Now, there isn't a NFL rookie QB that has been that horrific for that long of a stretch in a season.....in fact I would open it up and ask you to find ANY QB in the last 20 yrs that could match sucking for such great lengths.

If Clausen didn't have the skill set for Fox's then that means he doesn't for Chuds.

Anderson was brought in and told he had to be okay w/ his role to sign. Jake would be a good mentor for Clausen....as Clausen needs help in the areas outside the playbook. Cam just needs to get the playbook down...the rest comes natural.

Career NFL statistics as of Week 13, 2010

This is not success. Do not want, even as a backup.

Jake would've been a great mentor for Clausen AND Newton because he would help them deal with the media here, Anderson likely though will demand to start early, that's the worry i have. if he accepts his role as a 3rd string QB, then i am fine with this. Clausen should start and see if he can improve his trade value (if you dont start him before Newton is ready, then why did you keep him?).

I wanted Jake but this is a good pick up.

Just so long as he never has to take a snap in a real game.

I think its also a good move because Chud can use Anderson as a reference. He knows how he responded and played under him in Cleveland and now he can compare that with the new talent. Once he sees both Derek and Cam out there, he'll get an idea of where Cam is at knowledge wise in the new offense. Just don't give Anderson the soapbox and we'll see if Newton can already carry this team better than Derek did that 10-6 year in Cleveland.

You do realize he had two rookie WR's and another that couldn't / wouldn't catch the ball?

So you picked only 2 states to base your 'historically bad" comment on...surprised you didn't mention win / loss category?

Overall stats for him, shows that is if far from "historically bad".

Call him bad all you like, which I find you of all people calling him bad *cough Dewayne Jarrett* funny but so be it.

Say what you like, the personell and the attitude the entire organization had last year had a lot to do with ALL OF THEM SUCKING; not just Clausen.
