Panthers signing Derek Anderson

Recommended Posts

Well at least he's from the Coryell system and would contribute more than Marc or Jake would've.

he's not a great QB, yet he went to the pro bowl running Chud's system. that says a lot. maybe he won't be our start QB but if he can show CAM on the field how to run the system, and prepare then i wouldn't mind seeing him be our starter this year.

Derek went to the pro bowl with a lesser team around him than he will have this year. he didn't have smitty or double trouble and with the addition of olsen, we have a nice triangle of talent at all 3 positions for him to target.

i'm saying it now, he might not amount to much more than a teacher, but it wouldn't shock me a damn bit for him to return to pro bowl form in chud's system with the supporting cast he'd have around him.

i say sign him. i couldn't imagine a more perfect vet to bring in to tutor cam in this complex passing offense.

very true, that's part of the reason i dont like him. Some fans of the NFL dont even know why teams are looking at him. For me, it's more on talent, he's a turnover machine that had one good year and i dont see any more good years.
it's a 1+1 thing for me.

lack of talent + whiny overreacting little turd = really not someone want on the team. if he had talent but was a jerk, i'd be ok. if he was a great guy, but a lousy QB (like jake)...i'd still be ok, even if it wasn't ideal.

but DA has no redeeming qualities. he really has nothing to offer except that he "knows" the system.

Guys Derek Anderson will not start I only see him in a mentor Role and a teach the playbook role. Why because on game day you cant carry no more then 2 QB's new CBA rule. You know they are not going to not let Cam Sit that mean 22 million for nothing. Jimmy isnt going to sit either they want to see what does he have in him. If its anybody it will be anderson. mark my words.

Derek Anderson, released by the Arizona Cardinals last week, will meet with the Panthers today, general manager Marty Hurney said Sunday night. Barring any snags, the 28-year-old journeyman is expected to sign with the Panthers.

Sounds like he is our man.

Good we needed a vet and he is basically the best available.

Mark him down as week 1 starter.

Just need a CB now

yep, i agree with you here.

if we sign him, i hope you're right, i dont see Anderson going back to his pro bowl self, he's had chances on teams with talent (Arizona) and flopped.

I don't think Anderson is all that great but this would be the best situation for him. Arizona did not play a system friendly to his abilities. They had no run game and no good tight ends. They were in a pass first, second, and third offense which is clearly not his strong suit. Still he put up better numbers than Skelton and while he threw 10 Ints, he threw 7 Tds. I don't see how that is worse than Clausen's 3 Tds and 9 Ints.

For a guy who will sit the bench most of the time and play only until Newton is ready, what exactly would you expect. It isn't like everyone is dying to be a backup to a rookie and the worse QB in 2010 and play for a 2-14 team.

can't see DA mentoring anyone. having knowledge of the system and being in the league a couple years doesn't make him someone capable of mentoring.

if we are relying on DA to mentor cam, we are in serious trouble.

This is the point I'm trying to get across, out of the three (Delhomme, Bulger, Anderson) Jake would by far be he best mentor and have the best attitude about doing it.

Remember though, Arizona played in the worst division in football and has Larry Fitzgerald (one of the best WRs in the NFL) and he couldnt throw more than 7 TDs and threw 10 ints. Clausen's numbers may have been worse, but unlike Anderson, Clausen was a rookie who (in some games) didnt even have Smith to throw to because Smith was hurt. if Anderson is signed the only good thing is he can help teach Newton the offense.
