Panthers signing Derek Anderson

Recommended Posts

He will be here. He will start. Great signing..... even if DA starting will piss a lot of people off to start with.

if Anderson starts, i see them losing alot of games and Newton will be rushed into starting, Anderson isnt good enough to start in my book, he was beat out by Skelton.

I wouldn't be upset if DA were to BEAT out both Cam and Clausen. Whoever gives this team the best chance to win should start.

Which is what Rivera is obviously doing.

i would be upset because Anderson beating them out would be because he has more knowledge on the playbook, but in reality, he doesnt have the talent. the guy lost his starting job to Skelton and couldnt even play well with Fitzgerald on his team. Anderson wont beat out Clausen or Newton in my book (if he signs on) and honestly, i wouldnt sign him anyway, i would let Clausen take it and if he stinks it up, give it to Cam and give it to him, but we will see. i just dont see much of anything in Anderson and just see him as a guy to tutor Newton.

Steve Reed - Hurney denies that Panthers have signed Anderson

There was a report in The Oregonian that free agent QB Derek Anderson has already signed a contract with the Panthers, but GM Marty Hurney said that's premature and that no offer has been made. "We want to bring him in and get to know him a little bit and we'll go from there," Hurney said. Panthers RapidReports

He will be here. He will start. The organization learned a lot about the perils of starting a QB right out of the gate last season with Clausen. Regardless of who will be the better QB down the road, there exist ZERO doubt in my mind that Anderson will be leading this team out on opening day. How long he keeps the job will be the result of two things. 1. How well he does, obviously. 2. How quickly Cam is able to pick up the offense.

It is so weird how people are so willing to throw Cam directly into the fire here when doing so may stunt his development or give all the birds around the league enough ammo to chirp him. This is the most unique offseason in NFL history in regards to rookies and veterans alike not being given enough time to really immerse themselves in the professional life. We would be doing Cam a HUGE disservice to expect results on Day 1 of the season.

I think on opening day, DA would give us a better chance to win than Cam considering his knowledge of the offense and the lack of pressure DA will have and the options available to him.

Great signing..... even if DA starting will piss a lot of people off to start with.

if you thought that the booing of clausen at TC was bad, just wait until it's DA leading the team out the first time in charlotte...and unlike clausen's booing, i won't condemn it.

If that were the case; if the pro's in the front office were ALWAYS right, no one would ever change seats my man.

These guys are wrong a lot. There's no law that says they're right and we're wrong just because it's their job and they're pro's. That goes for every sport.

This was a bad, do-nothing move.

Nowhere in my comments did I even hint that they were ALWAYS right.

What my comment meant to convey was that if coaches, GM's, and scouts want to keep their high-paying jobs, they'll do whatever they can to improve the team.

Sometimes those moves don't work out. Sometimes those moves are counter-productive.

But the coaches/GM's/scouts didn't make those moves with that intent.

And, considering this IS a brand-spanking-new coaching staff, one that has been making pretty darned good moves thus far, at this point they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

So you don't want Newton to start day 1? You think Clausen would be a more viable option than Anderson? He can rush Newton to starting just as fast with the way he has played.

i dont want a vet unless he knows his role is at backup, but most are wanting to start and honestly, we need a CB more than a QB. Carlos Rogers should be visiting Monday, but like i said, i will wait and see, but i personally have little to no confidence in Anderson.
