Predict the Panthers record - game by game version 2011

Happy Panther

The real question is who will fall flat on their face Atlanta, New Orleans, or Tampa Bay?

I just don't see it for ATL or NO. If anything it would be Tampa having a bit of a pullback after a really good year. The squeaked by a few games last year and added a few bad losses.

Beat CLE, CIN, STL ARI and WAS by a total of 11 points. They could have been 5-11.

Crushed carolina though

1 Sep 11 CAR @ ARI: Win. I think we upset the Cards. I'm not sold on Kolb, and I don't really see them being able to stop our running game.

2 Sep 18 GB @ CAR: Loss. This one will be ugly. If we keep it under 20, i'll be impressed.

3 Sep 25 JAC @ CAR: Win. I'd be suprised if they win four games this year

4 Oct 02 CAR @ CHI: Loss. Tough place to play for our young guys. They are still a good football team. This game really depends on which Jay Cutler shows up.

5 Oct 09 NO @ CAR: Loss. Not by much, but I thnk Brees will be able to move the ball on our Secondary. I worry about our ability to come back if teams put points on us early

6 Oct 16 CAR @ ATL: Loss. See New Orleans explanation

7 Oct 23 WAS @ CAR Win. If Beck starts, we win this game by a large margin

8 Oct 30 MIN @ CAR: Win. Another team that I think we can beat. McNabb is not the same player and thier defense is getting older. Contain Peterson and we win.

9 Bye

10 Nov 13 TEN @ CAR: Win. Too many questions for them on offense. Contain Johnson, and we win

11 Nov 20 CAR @ DET: Loss. I think they are going to be much improved. Calvin Johnson will eat Gamble's lunch

12 Nov 27 CAR @ IND Loss: If Peyton is healthy, this is a blowout. If the backup is in, we have a shot.

13 Dec 04 CAR @ TB Loss: Freeman is good and they will be tough at home.

14 Dec 11 ATL @ CAR Win: We will be getting better and I think we upset them at our place.

15 Dec 18 CAR @ HOU Loss: too much offense for our defense to handle

16 Dec 24 TB @ CAR: Win: same as Atlanta above

17 Jan 01 CAR @ NO Loss: They will be fighting for the division and/or wildcard. They will beat us at thier place

7-9 (much like Fox's rookie season with an opening day win, some signs of promise, and then long losing streaks to end the season)

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
