Newton’s focus right now is not on money, but rather proving to his teammates he's the right guy to lead this team.

He already has veteran wide receiver Steve Smith convinced he has the skills to play.

And while Smith ultimately said he chose to stay because that’s what his family wanted, some close to him say Newton’s presence ultimately convinced him to stay in Carolina.

      i felt good for those few games that bryce didn't look like the worst in the league. all that fell apart again sunday.  i'm borderline just bailing on it all. i've been hanging on by a thin thread for several years. i mean it's not even fun to watch any football right now.
