Reports already saying Asante Samuel available for trade, should we go get?

I'd like to point out, b/c his thread got closed... With all due respect, if there is ANY due, thecarolinaswagger has to be one of the dumbest posters ever for saying Asante avoids hits and tackles...

Dude LOVES contact and tackling, lol. He clearly has not watched any Eagles games, ESPECIALLY last year. I watched at least two where he got flagged for some VICIOUS HITS...

He is a ballhawk and one of the most violent hitters I have ever seen at corner.

IDC if it's illegal, he's bad ass.

Looking over a few Eagles boards I see that they need a MLB pretty badly. Connor and a 4th or 5th for Samuel would be a steal, IMO. He may not be perfect, but his cap number is relatively low ($5 million or so) this year and he's a HUGE upgrade over anything we have.

I honestly think this has a legit chance at becoming a reality. We have signed several former Eagles already and Samuel was, perhaps, the best player on McDermott's defense not named Trent Cole. If we can get him for a decent price I see absolutely no reason why we shouldn't. Our D would be SICK with Samuel & Gamble on the outside, Munnerlyn in the slot, and our LB's with C.J. off the edge.

Only problems I can think of would be his age - and we did sign one 30+ starter already in Ron Edwards - or if he had trouble with McDermott for some reason in Philly. I can't imagine the Eagles would be asking for THAT much when everyone knows they can't keep Nnamdi, Samuel, AND Rodgers-Cromartie without a huge distraction from whoever isn't a starter.

I'd rather focus our attention on pass rushing. But I believe in this staff's vision.

We just signed Johnson to a 72 million dollar deal, we have Greg Hardy, we drafted two DTs, signed Ron Edwards, and locked up 3 linebackers...IDT a whole lot more is coming in the way of pass rushing.

We NEED another cornerback. We can't go into the season in this league (against passing teams like the Falcons and the Saints) with Chris Gamble as our #1 guy. I love Chris Gamble and I think he is a good corner but we need an upgrade at that position to pair with him. Marshall has been disappointing and if we can get another corner in a good deal then I'd do it. I'd gladly add Cromartie or Samuel to this team.

I honestly think the whole "don't have anybody on the roster over 30" thing was just an excuse to cut every non-elite vet we had in preparation for the lockout. I don't think they'll ever go back to that philosophy again if it even existed in the first place. So if they choose not go pursue Samuel, it probably won't be because of his age.

    • BB building a NFL caliber program. We training entirely different. The guys we had this year will be stronger, smarter, faster. The transfers are coming.    Im more worried about the QB position. We have to hit on that guy.
    • https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/3162765/report-forsberg-vejmelka-vladar-on-hurricanes-radar The Carolina Hurricanes are eyeing a trio of goaltenders to fortify their depth between the pipes. Ottawa's Anton Forsberg, Utah's Karel Vejmelka, and Calgary's Dan Vladar are on Carolina's radar, reports The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun. However, none of those teams are in sell mode yet and might not be at all depending on how their seasons go, LeBrun notes. All three goalies are pending unrestricted free agents. Forsberg has posted an .889 save percentage in 11 games with the Senators this campaign as Linus Ullmark's backup. The 32-year-old journeyman previously spent time in Raleigh during in 2019-20. Vejmelka has emerged as Utah's starter this season, registering a sparkling .915 save percentage in 17 appearances. Vladar has struggled with an .885 save percentage in 16 games while sharing the Flames' crease with Dustin Wolf. The Canes also reportedly spoke to the Anaheim Ducks about John Gibson after missing out on Mackenzie Blackwood, who was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 9. Pyotr Kochetkov has struggled with an .895 save percentage in 18 games as Carolina's No. 1 goalie this season. Veteran netminder Frederik Andersen hasn't played since October and was given an eight-week timeline after undergoing knee surgery in late November.
    • I haven’t seen him play, but if he doesn’t get separation and he’s slow, that doesn’t sound like a top 5 WR
