Everyone knows we can't Trade PEP until he signs the Tender, Right?

The only thing him signing the tender would do is allow carolina to actually talk to teams about peppers, as of the moment they can't do that at all (they might still do it, as tampering has been done before, but it would be in direct violation of the NFLPA rules set forth for teams.

The tender also allows Peppers to be traded. If he has not signed the tender than Peppers cannot be traded.

The tag works this way.

Non-exclusive tag that isn't signed means that only peppers and Carey can talk to other teams, if he's offered an offer sheet (very unlikely) Carolina has the opportunity to either match the deal or let the other team have him for two First rounders. If he signs the tag, it allows Carolina to negotiate with other teams and accept what compensation they feel is appropriate to the situation at hand.

Peppers can block any trade by just saying he doesn't want to play there, so the new team will be one he wants to play for. Otherwise the other team isn't going to give up the picks to take him for a one year rental.

Right now whats going on is Peppers and Carey are feeling out the market for his services for teams he wants to play with. Once they find a team that's willing to part with picks for him and sign him to a contract to his liking, he will bring it to the attention of the panthers. Then peppers will sign the Franchise tag and be traded.

Because the tender alows you to be traded for lest than a first round damn you are an idiot.

Listen up. You just agreed with the statement that said that if Peppers signed the tender he could not be traded for less than two firsts. That is not correct. If that was a mistake on your part fine but that is what you agreed with. So before calling someone an idiot read what you actually wrote.

Gotcha. This is because if he doesn't sign we can retract the franchise tag and trade him for less but if he signs we can't negotiate anything less than 2 firsts in a trade

We can't retract he tag, if we do so he becomes an UFA. He either accepts it and gets traded under the tag, stays and plays under the tag, gets offered an offer sheet or decides to sit out and not get payed anything at the age of 29.

Those are his options.

That means he has all the Power and our front office cannot negotiate with another team. That specific team has to tell Carl Carey what they will offer him and they will give Peppers the offer, Peppers can either turn it down or accept it, if he accepts it we can match that offer or the specifc team gives us to first rounders. If we have pep sign the tender we can trade him to a team because he is under contract, DO YOU UNDERSTAND.

the panthers don't want to trade him. they want him to stay here. they have rights to him. he belongs to them until he can find someone to work out a deal that we agree to.

if he wants to go somewhere else he has to find a place. until he does he is a panther.

that implies that the path to peppers going elsewhere goes through hurney's office. peppers has to get approval from hurney. i don't know how you view things but that is a place of power. panthers don't have to do anything right now except say yes or no.

the burden of finding another locale is on peppers. i say burden because it is a lot of work. why should the panthers have to work on something that they don't want to do (trading him off)?

This is a lot of discussion over basicaly nothing. The Panthers have always wanted Peppers and still do. So they are not going to try and trade him anyway. it is on Peppers and Carey to find a deal sutiable to the Panthers not the other way around. They will be fine for him to play here next year. Sure they pay 17 million but avoid paying around 30-35 million in guaranteed money. Peppers better have a good year or his market value will go way down.

Peppers is not in control as people mistakenly think. The franchise tag gives the control to the team. The only way this would be a bad scenario is if the Panthers wanted to get rid of Peppers. Nothing they have said suggests that this is the case.

Whether he signs the tender now, when he negotiates a deal, later this year or whenever really doesn't matter. He can't go to anyone else against our wishes unless they pony up 2 firsts. It is much better for us to have him running around looking for deals than for us trying to unload him. If he can't get what he wants he will have to come back and negotiate. He might find that he is not as valuable as he thinks or that he could do worse than come back here to play.

Making alot of noise about whether he signs his tender at this point is wasted space and ink. If he hasn't signed or been traded by July it might warrant a lot more discussion.

Nope, if you retract the franchise tag:

" (d) Any of the required tenders set forth in this Section 2 may be withdrawn at any time, but if such tender is withdrawn, the player immediately becomes an Unrestriced Free Agent and thereafter is completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any such player, without any penalty or restriction......"

So, if you retract the tag, you can't trade him because ..... he's not yours to trade.
