Hurney's Drafts (Put in Perspective)

If he is so good why are we 2-14?

Mostly, because of coaching. And we aren't 2-14, we're 0-0. When two of the top five or six FAs are your guys, and you resign them, it's another small piece of evidence about his good drafting. All teams make some mistakes, Hurney makes fewer than average, maybe even fewer than most.

Have you ever actually played any sports? Talent alone does not dictate record. In fact, I daresay that it's 1/2 of the equation at most.

Yea I played football in the shrine bowl and Big Ten as a four year starter.Where did you play?

If that's true, your above posts don't reflect that. After all, the Big 10 does include Indiana... :)

Someone with your experience should know the very large roles that coaching and chemistry play in building a team.

Well I was a Gopher and yes I understand how coaching chemistry plays into building a team and also understand the postion Fox was put in last year. Was that the doing of JR or Hurney I do not know. What I do know as fact is that Hurney was highly involved in A Edwards and Jimmy Clausen getting drafted which were terrible decisions regardless of the coach.

We can agree to disagree but in my opinion Hurney is not a great GM.Remember the OP is judging his draft picks

We are the only team since 2003 to have every first round pick still on the team, and on top of that in a starting or near-starting capacity (Stewart). Say what you will about Hurney but he gets the important picks right, and manages to still find lots of talent in later rounds.

What does that stat mean.?Look at the picks and see what their value is. Show me the great success we have had in the 1st round as a whole.EBrown cost us a first rd pick. Otah has not been healthy,TDavis has been hurt and came as a saftey.Cris Gamble is an over paid cb I am not saying its been all bad but last year was horrible.

2 potential stars in Gettis and Hardy (key word being potential), a likely solid player in LaFell, and a few unknown commodities (Edwards, Pugh, and Stanford) do not constitute a horrible draft 1 year later. Will this likely not be his best draft? Yes. Can we call it horrible at this point? Maybe in the context of last season, but overall no.

TD had an unfortunate knee injury that reoccurred, happens to the best of them. Gamble is a very good corner statistically but was put into Fox's doghouse last year.

Last year was not bad as a result of personnel, it's not even Clausen's fault even though he did contribute. The blame rests in a coach who was overly rigid in how he wanted to play football. He was forced to play the younger players and his response was to put in less effort. There is a reason why before last year he was a desired coach and then had a much harder time getting signed this year.

How about D Jarrett ?Hurney has done nothing special.I think he has done a bad job all in all. How about keeping Morgan and letting Witherspoon walk?We a decent scouting team but that has nothing to do with Hurney

is it your time of the month or do you just hate the front office?

I could of sworn I just left a thread where you were bitching about us

overpaying for all the players we just signed.

so let me get this straight......you bitch cause we can't draft good players

and then.................when our bad drafted players become good and we

have to resign them....you think the FO over pays.

does that sound right?
