Actually, I've heard Cam compared to BR and Freeman quite a bit. Only a moron would compare Cam to Carr or Smith. Cam has much more in common with Russell (sec, dual threat, physically imposing, big arm, etc) than either of those guys but I agree that Russell isn't the best comparison.
