Gettis and LaFell actually had pretty good years considering.

Gettis had 37 catches for 508 yards which averaged out to 13.7 yards a catch and 3 TDs.

LaFell had 38 catches for 468 which averages 12.3 and 1TD.

I don't know how that is totally unproven. Given how bad Clausen was and how enemic our offense was last year, seems they both did a pretty good job.

It they can do the same this year, Smith returns to form and the TEs take up the slack, it seems to me that the passing game will be pretty dynamic this year.

I think it's all about how you use and look at stats.

I believe they had those numbers because there was no other option most of last year. There were games when they played #1 and #2.

I think that most WR's in the NFL being forced to play the #1 and #2, play from behind, and take most of the snaps on the field will see those same type of numbers...

At the same time I think if they were on another roster they would have been buried further down on the depth chart, not had as much opportunities and had stats like othe #3,#4,#5 WR's who aren't their teams top option.

So I think the stats have more to deal with their situation than skills.

Do you hear yourself? If you don't have skill you don't make plays, period. That's just how it is. Gettis and LaFell were able to produce in a generic, direct, and anemic offense (even when the most proven receiving threat wasn't on the field: Smitty), with QB's who were sub-par (at best) all season.

Considering a change in offensive scheme how could one not have optimism for them to play even better, I mean aside from an improved team "they" I imagine have put in the work to improve their own games (I remember seeing them in the clips of the POTA's).

It doesn't make sense to invest four picks towards receivers in two years, meanwhile having a proven number one only to stifle the development (by taking away game reps) from promising young receivers, by bringing in someone else. Just look at the best palyers on our team right now, the last couple of years...we didn't sign them from free agency. They were drafted and developed, winning free agency doesn't guarnatee winning games; all the "great" teams build via the draft. You want free-agents join Washington's fan base.

On top of that why trade for a 33 year old receiver who has maybe a couple good seasons in him (OchoCinco) while we're still building our team. Or why bring in a guy like Braylon who's dealing with DUI issues and has the dropsies. And regrding MSW (Mike Sims-Walker) the Jaguars receivers are T E R R I B L E, I'm sure there's a reason they didn't resign him, but some think we should...no thanks.

Dude... you REALLY need to read what someone wrote before picking one line and responding with a bunch of generic blah blah

#1) No where did I say anything about signing Ocho, Edwards or any other Vet WR. I've actually said multiple times if we sign someone it should be a younger FA stud, but I would prefer we draft a stud in next years stacked draft.

#2) Never did I say they don't have skills. WHAT I SAID WAS....Using their stats to prove their skills is flawed because you have to look at the situation.

My question to you... Even though we all ready had the worst passing offense in the NFL, if we would have had any other WR starting at #1 or #2, do you think we would have had games with 0 yards passing? I mean someone has to catch the ball right?

If they played for the packers on a different team last year that had quality at the position would they have put up those kind of numbers??

That was what I was responding to... You can't use stats without looking at the situation to prove a point.

#1A receiver - Stud vet Steve Smith. Can easily still be one of the best in the league.

#2(or 1B) - Pro Bowl talent at TE, Greg Olsen. The only way we got this future stud is Chicago and Martz ran a scheme and didn't use him at all.

#3/4 - Lafell or Gettis - Two guys with a lot of potential and talent. Receiver is one of those positions that everyone knows takes some time to learn at the NFL level. Talented young guns at the 3 and 4 spot makes all the sense in the world.

Those are the starters and I don't know who I would want to get to replace any of them. They all compliment each other. Some have elite speed, others great catching ability while some are really good blockers.

Also, don't forget that this new offense will probably throw to our RB's more than we've ever seen from a Panthers team.

Plus, I like the kid from Hawaii.

Don't forget Shockey in 2 TE sets. Or Goodson in the slot. Double Trouble on the field together.... oh yeah.

smith/olsen/shockey/goodson....those guys by themselves make me feel good(not great, but good) about the passing game.

gettis and lafell have a year under their belt so they could improve or slump. yet to be determined slump is more likely.

we do have also williams and stewart who are reliable as receivers as well.

i was a little worried about the receiving corps until we brought in olsen. i wouldn't be opposed to bringing in a vet FA, but i won't be bothered if we don't.
