Yea, I want Clausen to start, but for different reasons.

In a condensed off season without ota's, increased roster sizes, and new coaches/philosiphys, the coaches are going to need the first few weeks to evaluate talent. There will be little time for really coaching the new system and spending one on one time with our players.

I don't think the team as a whole will be ready week 1. If that's the case why put Cam in a situation for him to fail. If he is going to be our franchise QB for the next 10 + years there is no need to rush him in. The kid still has a lot to learn.

I'll rather let Jimmy try to be the QB while the team gets their act together. Then if Clausen can just be okay you let Cam in when he is ready. Start with some series, then give him more game time until he is ready.

This way he comes in, plays well, and builds great confidence.

Just my opinion, though I know it's not a popular one around here.

Clausen probably isn't as bad as his rookie season makes him look. However with the new coaching staff, Clausen and Newton are both rookies in that offense but Newton gets the edge. I think that Sorenson article about Clausen being the starter reflects incumbent loyalty that no longer exists (for example, the legendary Kasay being pushed out).

Lets see who plays better in training camp and the preseason. I think it will be Newton. I agree that Clausen doesn't really have an advantage. Frankly it is likely Newton knows the offense better than Clausen at this point.
