Career Rushing Stats, YPC Basis, DeAngelo Vs. Barry Sanders

Well lets not forget that today athletes are much faster and athletic these days. Barry was ahead of the game when he played.

Deangelo will never have the stats of Barry Sanders. But he is the only back I've seen in my short time of watching the NFL that looks anything like Barry Sanders.

Barry Sanders is my favorite RB, possibly my favorite player of all-time, and DLo reminds me a lot of him at times but...

Barry seemed to have just a bit more top-end speed and DLo didn't get enough carries his first couple years to come close to what Barry did career wise in yardage and carries.

Then again, the lack of action early on and the presence of Stew and Goody are very likely to keep his body fresh and healthy for a few more years than Barry played, so I can see DLo eclipsing 10,000 eventually, but probably not over 12k. Detroit ran the sh*t out of Barry and never got a QB to help him.

Deangelo Williams

841 carries, 4,211 yards gained, average yards per carry is at 5.007

Barry Sanders

3,062 carries, 15,269 yards gained, average yards per carry is at 4.986

Just sayin.....

If he stays healthy, absolutely worth the money!

Barry Sanders retired at 30.....2 yrs from where DeAngelo now is.

So if you want to compare them you have to address the 15,269 total yards and 74 TD difference between them.

Williams has once in his career put together a 16 game season.....Sanders put them in almost every year which speaks volumes about how good he really was and durable......in fact before he retired he together 5 straight seasons of a full 16 games.

All of us love Williams but that comparison is a slap in the face to one of the greats.

i love dwill as much as anyone (except for maybe the williams fanboy OP), but sanders >> williams.

dude was a once in a lifetime talent. too bad his team burned and abused him the way they did. never got that guy any help and he just got worn out. shame he couldn't have been put in a better situation. if he was, even that YPC would be no comparison. dude had just as much or more yards going backward as he did going forward b/c of that oline (ok...exaggeration, but hehad over 1000 yards going backwards).

I was privileged enough to watch Barry his whole career, and the similarities between he and D-Will are striking. Neither one is the fastest but they rarely get caught from behind. Both can cut on a dime, reverse field, and be back at top speed in two steps. They both have the ability to make the first guy miss, either by juking or using a stiff-arm. They both have the smoothest spin moves in the business. And lastly, for now, they both are capable of taking any touch to the house.

Whereas Barry was a dancer, waiting and hoping for a hole to open. D-Will has a tendency to go where the play leads, then improvise from there. D-Will has had a more consistant O-line, could be a reason his YPC is so good. Which begs the point that Barry's YPC is good dispite playing behind inferior (As to D-Will's) lines.

IMHO, D-Will could be considered the second coming of Barry. Same size, similar skills, and the same ability to put the fear of failure into opposing D,s. Or maybe, just an eeriely good carbon copy.

As for jim stone... nevermind.

Oh yeah. AND GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
