Are you ready for some football? I haven't been on in months and just wanted to let my presence be felt---not that any of you bastards missed me. Just wanted to say, "Hey!"

Things are going pretty well thus far (IMHO)! I am actually guardedly excited about getting our entire squad back, and I'll knock on wood that my fellow alum stays healthy this year (from TD to TD), and pray that our human excavation machine doesn't turn into O-nah this year (yeah it's lame, but who cares?). Barring injury, I think we'll get 5 games this year. Being really optimistic, We might even get to .500 (or maybe more). But, then again, I am no going to be overly optimistic, but will be positively realistic. Realistic expectations are just what the doctor has ordered for every sane Panthers fan, which BTW is the only way to retain a semblance of sanity this season.

Newton, Shockey, Olson, Smith, Williams, Stewart: We should not lack toughness on offense, that's for damn sure (even if we acquire a veteran QB to facilitate Newton's transition)! Just got to get another veteran WR to seal the deal in my estimation! One thing about it: our TEs are de facto receivers, especially in Chud's philosophy. Here's to hoping some WR not named Smitty actually shows something not only in preseason, but the real deal! Lord knows we have enough of them. Whoever ain't producing before the season during every opportunity that they have is toast, and I don't think that there will be as much as 12 inches of leash before one or more of the WRs is kicked to the curb.

Defensively, we will be much improved. If Davis is anywhere near where he was when he was initially injured, then our LB core will be the envy of the league. Yes, I said it, "The envy of the league!" Now, the line is still suspect. Still not a believer in EB, and we may have payed just a little much for CJ, but I am going to trust that another one of my fellow alums is going to keep that motor turning. The backfield is still suspect too, but you can't have everything (except Asomugha...). Perhaps my belief that there was some type of Jedi mind trick going on with our pass defense last year is truly a figment of my imagination, and the DBs aren't who I think they are.

Anyway, I am excited. Glad to be back! Love my Panthers, regardless!

If there is nothing else I think that you can take from our recent acquisitions and re-ups, it's that our new coaching staff wants toughness, plain and simple. Heart! And, they really do plan to move the chains via the air---even if it's underneath coverage. The FO (inc. all the coaches) seem very laser-beam-like and smart (truly "football" smart") in their planning and attention to detail. Hell, yeah!
