Big Winners (so far)

I can't say I understand keeping Fox around last year either. There's still some time left for getting some more players though, and I believe we've been in contact with some today. I don't believe everything I read though. At the same time not everything is printed. I'm giving it time.

Yep, I hope JR surprises me but from the way he was talking this morning it sounds like he's about satisfied and doesn't plan on making any more big moves.

We'll see.

I just don't see a lot of real improvements for the poo we were put through.

If he had a plan all along and he's some genius, he could/should have signed some guys that weren't on the 2-14 team to help us improve while also keeping the good players from that team.

Signing a DT that you can't even name isn't the improvements we need.

I believe JR said we were working on extending our own guys today so I don't know how much more of an impact we will make in FA, could be slim pickings when we are ready to make a move but hopefully he surprises me.

I just think it's a little early to call him a genius if we go to camp with the same team + Cam.

In that situation we just got lucky that Clausen was that bad.

No, I didn't know his name before we signed him, but so what... I don't know a lot of the NFL players. Signing a DT that has played 80 straight games for another team sounds like a great idea to me.

I don't think we have to go out and sign a bunch of super stars to have a good team, and what kind of team would we be if we let the guys (like Johnson and DWill) we know are good just walk?

Klong has a great point too... the new coaches will make a HUGE difference... Fox didn't give a poo last season and that was a big part of the problem imo. If JR doesn't get them a vet QB and sign a good CB then yeah, he won't have done as much as he could have, but no matter how you look at it, they had to have priorities and apparently the priority was signing our own FAs. I have no problem with that at all.

i don't think you can take that interview this morning as meaning we're not going after anyone else

why put our business out there for other teams to have an idea of what we're doing

the FO needs to strike quickly and quietly on any targets they may still have

This. plus our own players can report to camp tomorrow. If we signed some big name FA they wouldn't be able to report until 8/4.

makes perfect sense to me to be on the low about guys outside the organization, and let every other team know we are keeping our guys.

We don't have any more guys to keep.

They are all already kept.

We did major damage this FA period as far as signing our talent long term...

Next year we'll be where TRD wants us to be... Signing big names.

We can only do so much at one time... We have done a lot this year. I'm happy. If we get anything more I'm happy!

Can anybody argue that we aren't the big winner so far?

Sure. Other than saving money on an unproven rookie QB, just what have we done to improve? Your supposed to keep your core players so that's no even an issue. Other than that we brought in a few average players like we always have done, and signed a kicker who is a tad better than our previous one (and some will argue worse than Kasay). So just how are we winning big thus far?
