Greg Hardy slightly injured in motorcycle crash

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one that thinks the guy should be permitted to ride a motorcycle if he wants to?

no. I just think he should have been a lot smarter about it, AND he should have a license. Also in addition to the helmet he should have been wearing a jacket, gloves, and pants and boots meant for riding. If he had those things on he likely wouldn't be missing any time at all.

Agreed.

Everyone talks about how stupid athletes are for risking injury or death when they have these careers to account for, and I suppose that's true, but I for one wouldn't want my career to stop me from doing the things I enjoy doing.

He can do whatever the hell he wants. Doesn't make it intelligent.

Why is it less intelligent for a professional athlete to ride a motorcycle than it is John Q. Public? They each could be risking their lives and their careers -- Hardy just has more to lose financially. Perhaps it was a wreckless decision, but I wouldn't call it stupid.

Also, why is everyone insinuating that I-40 is some exceptionally dangerous road?

I'm not a professional athlete and i wouldn't dream of riding a bike these days.

If my buddy who has 2 kids and a decent job rides a bike and gets hurt then I would call him an idiot as well.

highways in general can be dangerous for motorcyclists. he should have rode east towards the Appalachians for some good riding.

Fair enough. That was what I was getting at.

Kids change things, of course, but I'm of the opinion that it might also be a little "stupid" to let one part of your life deprive you from living another part to the fullest. But that's just me. I don't think it's as much a question of intelligence as it is risk.
