JR on player safety: work conditions were tied into 18 game system....players faster and stronger....in other words...its a more dangerous game than in his time and works still needs to be done on player safety...

How did we get from beginning to end of lockout?

Started in 2008- knew labor negotiations were going to be difficult, not something unusual. had fairly large committee. knew both sides needed to be prepared to represent to their benefit. he is throwing out names of people involved left and right. felt good about the support they had.

unsung heroes people in league office and legal firms you never hear about working their butts off with negotiations. brutal and exhausting process. wanted to achieve agreement to serve the league/players/fans in the long-term.

Were able to do that without missing any games. Not an easy feat. At the end of the day, credit goes to Goodell and Smith.

How real was the threat of missing games?

Very well could have happened. Fortunately both sides realized consequences of missing games and feelings of fans, came to agreements.

Whats important is that we DIDN'T miss any games.

As an owner who actually played, what are your thoughts on new safety issues?

A couple players in the labor agrmts felt very strongly about issues, tied it into the 18 game system

With new work rules, we could measure what kind of results they produce and at some point we can consider 18 game schedule. Doesn't seem like the fans care about 4 preseason games. At the moment, 18 games doesn't benefit players...connection went out for a second.

With new conditions, players are faster. Cam Newton is bigger than lineman JR played with and he's only a QB.

Good interview by BigCat.

Keeping it light.

Showing it isn't a crazy ole coot after all.

I thought it went fairly well. Kept everything short and sweet. Sounded alert. Didn't say anything extremely embarrassing. Overall a good interview.
