Derrick Ward signs with Tampa Bay

get use to that twice a year.

Hah, yeah right. It won't be so easy for Ward when he doesn't have Jacobs to soften up the defense for him. Not to mention the fact that he's going to see a serious downgrade in the quality of his run blockers. Combine those two things with Tampa's lack of a QB and you've got serious problems.

Ward just took advantage of already beaten down defenses...nothing more than a stud backup who had a beeeeaaaast in front of him...Earnest Graham is no Brandon Jacobs...

I'll take two starters (Dwill/Stew) over 2 back ups (Ward/Graham)...thank you.

Man, thank god that guy Morris isn't OUR coach...

The only reason he racks up good yards is because opposing defenses are exhausted after getting pounded by the big guy for three quarters. If you look at his YPC, it sucks in the first and second quarter and goes up significantly in the 3rd, 4th and OT.

I found this in one of Yasinkas's blogs.

actually, I remember an observer writer say the same thing about DeAngelo around this time last year. The premise was the same, just replace "Big guy" with "DeShaun Fumblester".

Thats a good point. There's no denying he's got skill and from what I've read, they could have another Earth Wind and Fire backfield in Tampa Bay. Cadillac, Graham and Ward.

I kind of wish we had to cap space to have made plays on Chris Canty or some other top DTs.

I could care less about this signing. Most of you are forgetting that most of his yards against us came when both our starting DT's were out. That plus the Giants have one of the Olines in the league and the Bucs have at best a middle of the pack Oline, on top of the fact that with a backup QB starting next season (the Bucs will be facing a lot of 8 man fronts). I see this being one of those almost irrelevant signings.

the reason that Ward was not snatched up at the very beginning of FA for a big contract is this....his success was a result of not having to play until the 2nd half, combined with running behind one of the best OL's in football. He was an average RB... playing behind a great line...sharing the load with 2 other good RB's.

he will not break 1,000 yds in TB. Was watching NFLN the other day and they said the exact same thing about Ward. Every team rep they were speaking to re-itereated that was most team's view of him.
