Yeah, I liked the C. Rogers idea when we kicked it around awhile back, but the more I've thought about it, that would be putting a band-aid on a wound that needs a stitch. We need a talented younger guy with potential to get better like JJ so that those corner spots are taken care of for the next however many years...

If we sign Carlos, we're most likely still gonna be looking around for the next few years for an upgrade instead.

I get it... But with this new CBA... I can't help but think we could go corner in the 1st round next year and come out in top... Younger and cheaper...

Mull it over and hit me back....

Plus I was trying to prepare "US" fir not getting him by pointing out possible cheap bright spots...

I don't think we can afford to wait until next year to address corner, because we may have other needs that year too. By saying we'll pick up a first rounder next year we are acknowledging the huge size of the hole - and it's one we could still fill this offseason. If we have the chance to get Joseph we really should. If we don't, there are other options. But going into next year without having picked up a CB is a huge mistake... and it's one I do not see us making.

FWIW, Brandon Hogan's rehab is going ahead of schedule. He is supposed to be at full strength in August. I would probably put him on the PUP list and see how he progresses--from today, that would give him another 11 weeks to build it back up. He needs to have a chat with Thomas Davis too. I think Hogan is going to be a good one.

Joseph should be a top priority for the remainder of this FA period. The NFCS has plenty of stud receivers and talented QBs to get them the ball when needed. A duo of Gamble and Joseph could really make our defense very tough to move the chains against. I'm confident that with an improved pass rush and our monster LB core, we would force turnovers and three and outs. Something I have long missed in Charlotte.

With the two sides unable to reach agreement on a paycut, the 49ers officially told CB Nate Clements they will be releasing him.

The 49ers release of cornerback Nate Clements clears $15.7 million of cap room. That should put them in the Nnamdi hunt

If this is a full court press by the 49ers to pick up Nnamdi (which listening to the local morning sports talk on my drive in, it seems like it is), then Cromartie will re-sign with New York, then the Texans will over pay for Joseph, and we will be looking at the next tier of guys like Rogers. Seems to me like there is a very real possibility that Marshall could be back.

Youre right...both Marshall and Rogers seem to not have a lot of shine right now

well, they do have a growing munnerlyn as well as 2 decent rookie CBs they brought in this year (hogan and burney). thats a pretty decent, though mostly unproven, little stable right there. they might feel pretty good about the potential of those guys.

might be that we just need someone for a couple years to help with these younger guys development.
