Kasay is NOT retiring, has NOT been cut

Really hate to see him go, especially like this. I've always said that folks would miss him as soon as we end up with someone not as reliable....we'll see how Mare does, hopefully he can boot it out of the endzone on kick-offs.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.. What are the Panthers supposed to do? wait till he actually loses a foot to move forward? Die on the field?

He is legend on this team but The Panthers had to account for his diminished kicking range, poor kickoffs and inability to run on kick off coverage.

John, meet couch.. In fact the only thing that grew in his game was his waist.

It is time..and Mare still has skills at his own advanced age.

John, meet couch..

Couch, meet John...

This has to be Ron Rivera's idea.

probably....what coach wants to waste a spot for an extra kicker b/c one happens to be a really great guy. It was time to move on from that trio we had been carrying.....that ain't smart. It was the right football move.

Mare is fairly comparable to Kasay as a fg kicker....but also happens to be a beast at KOs.

The last 3 yrs Lloyd had 62 touchbacks

The last 3 yrs Mare had 64 touchbacks

and they just moved where you kick from.....so basically Mare is both Lloyd and Kasay combined.....this is not a bad thing. One more spot to carry a player of need.

Eh? They showed him plenty of respect, even notifying him of their plans *before* carrying them out:

This is a business... and this team is moving in a new direction. With the new rules they wanted to go with a new kicker. Mare is a good one, and while he'll never replace Kasay in our hearts, I think it's a good time to move on.

Mare is better than Kasay is right now in all likelihood - I think he supposedly has been over the last few years too.

Eh, the last original Panther and the fans find out when his replacement is announced? I don't really know the details, nor do you, but it was a brutal way of announcing it to the public.

I am sure they will give him a moment. Mare is better, no doubt. A roster spot (considering the kickoff is at the 35) is reason enough
