Olindo Mare to Panthers for a 4 Year Deal

The Saltman

Recommended Posts

he's a pretty inconsistent kicker. ranking of FG percentage for kickers with at least 10 attempts:

2010 - 16th

2009 - 3rd

2008 - 10th

2007 - dead last. 10-17 in his one year in new orleans

2006 - 30th

2005 - 12th

2004 - 27th

that's as far back i'm going. obviously FG% is not the best comparison since every attempt is a different siutation. a better measure would be a system where FG% is weighted by the average attempt distance.

Well hopefully we will be scoring actual touchdowns this season, and won't have to constantly rely on a kicker nailing 45+ yarders on a regular basis every gotdamn game. Pretty sure Ol' Mare can nail a 19 yard extra point. Plus, now it'll only be one roster spot for what has been a two man job for some time now. With the new KO rules, you can be sure the opponent will be starting on the 20 yard line 9 times out of 10 now.

i know that's what you really feel.

seriously, we have been using 2 roster spots to do what 1 kicker should be able to do for years.

THAT is the fail. it's about time we corrected that.

the dude is just as reliable as kasay.

time to move on and get over it. like it or not kasay is gone.

we have a new panther kicker now. sad for those wanting kasay to play forever and ever amen, but this is a step in making the team better.

Yeah! Change for the sake of change! that always fixes everything, I mean look at America!! Whoo!

Kasay had to go! Why? I mean, look how long he has been here! Let's go sign a bum!! Yeah! Take that, monotony!

Fail.

who says olindo mare is an upgrade?
only sense that he is an upgrade is that he can do kickoffs and maybe long term. it's a step to the side as far as FG and XP accuracy is concerned.

dude just brings more value to the team because he eliminates the need for a KOS and he should be around for longer.

kasay's leadership will be missed, but this is a young team. they'll adjust and new leaders have emerged/will emerge.

Yes, brilliant post. This 2-14 team is just 1 player away from a Super Bowl trophy and we got in 38-year-old kicker Olindo Mare.

Congrats on totally missing the point... having to use another roster spot on a guy to KO because you are keeping a guy around out of a sense of loyalty is not how you build a winning program.
