The draft seems so far away...

I realize we are all having fun speculating on Peppers. So much rides on what happens with him.

We can't really make any significant moves in FA until we free up some money.

We can't free up money until we trade Peppers.

We can't trade Peppers until he signs the tender. Our FO must be be going crazy working the phones - I hope they are (ones not laid off anyway). Hopefully Peppers is working the phone too..

I read on Banks SI.com most 'big trades' happen day one of the draft. This is where I see us making our moves.

If I had known Cassel (s?) would go for a second round pick I would have loved to see something here - and I am a huge Delhome fan...

My own speculation at this point is we won't see anything till draft, and than I see us getting picks rather than signing anyone during FA.

Im sorta confident in what we will do with Pepp. I see no wrong doing whether we decide to keep him or not. I read a lot on here about returning all of our starters didnt necessarily treat us well in the past, but this time its different. Why?

Well...not only for this coming season but in the future we have Gross, Wharton, and Otah locked up for a few years..combo that with our 2 headed monster at RB for atleast 2 more years. Smitty on the outside, then lets talk defense. Gamble is locked up at CB while Harris is at safety and we have a young good one in Godfrey. LBs - well Davis is a FA soon and we will have Beason for a few more years.

Lets get to my point - We have more talented youth players locked up in key positions than we did before. No matter what happens, teams are still going to have to deal with our running game and Smitty on offense and whether we lock up Pepp long term or get 2 1st rounders or whatever we get in return for Pepp, its going to be some talented players here for a while. Before I didnt feel this way. I feel like last season wasnt a peek to anything and whatever happens to Peppers really wont matter bc we have a young exciting running game locked down for a while and CAN AFFORD to concentrate on defense.

I love this team and the draft is far away but its nice to be in our spot rather than searching for players *cough Bucs cough* and spending tons of millions of dollars on players to fill holes on your team *cough Skins cough*

Well said!

While waiting IS excruciating, I definately think we're in better shape than a lot of the teams out there. We don't have a ton of offensive needs, or even defensive needs... two or three key pickups through free agency and draft will shore up the defense and we *should* be set.

we're in a good spot.

I would say were in a pretty good spot except on Dline. Now although I would have loved to have gotten Brenard or Canty, but for the money they got the value wasn't there. We are now entering the timeframe of FA that you can really finds some gems for a low price (relatively), but the longer the Peppers situation goes on the less likely we are to get those gems. All I know is I want it over, either find a reasonable offer for him or let him go. This doesn't need to make it all the way to April before a decison is made.

Cassel would never have gone to us for just a second round pick.

People around the league are screaming about the 'favor' Belichick did for Scott Pioli.

Not to mention it was the 3rd pick in the second, thats almost a first that can be signed for the contract of a second. The talent difference between the 32nd and 35th pick is not that different but between the 32nd and the 59th is.

While waiting IS excruciating

I killed myself last year impatiently waiting for the draft like it was going to happen the week after free agency started.

I'm trying to pace myself this year. I recorded all the live coverage of the scouting combine and have been going back through that to pass the time.

That being said, I will be glued to the TV on Draft Day. The day they slapped the franchise tag on Pepp, my prediction was a draft day trade. It will be fun!

    • I really like the way this team is trending. Morgan and Canales rookie campaign saw them do some questionable picks but, they also did some really good things. Especially addressing the offensive line.  Young had such a disastrous rookie season where his confidence was nowhere to be seen.  You can attribute part of this to a terrible offensive line.  So, we focused on the O-line.   We then brought in several defensive free agents that were supposed to compliment Brown.  Once Brown went down those players could not hold the line.  2025 we focused on defense in Free Agency and brought in several good players.  We then added more talent in the draft.  I think we have competition in several areas where Vets are not guaranteed to be starters.  Our offensive line is pretty set with some good backups.  Our defensive line is going to be a war for who comes out to be the starters.  All in All, we are leaps and bounds much better than 2023 roster.  Canales made some rookie head coach mistakes but grew as the season progressed.  He got our QB, who was starting to look like a huge bust, playing with confidence and poise.  Now it appears Young is moving upwards.  Maybe he is a QB whisperer.  After Young started to play better our offense was fun to watch.  Morgan knows football and knows what he wants in his players.  It appears to me that not only are these players he's drafted really good and got great value for them, but they are also high motor, intense players. Our defense, in the past, was always the key to our success.  I think Morgan is building a great defense. I know it is too soon to tell but I believe we may have a tandem that will be around a long time.  It would be nice to see Morgan/Canales be in the same class as Lynch/Shanahan and Beane/McDermott.   I know many Huddlers will overreact, but I truly believe we have a tandem that will be around a long time. TIME WILL TELL. Go Panthers
    • I am actually really excited about this kid. One thing that really jumped off watching his highlights was he almost is too fast or almost over pursues. You can get away with that stuff in college but the NFL these guys are stronger and more "slippery".  Little things that can be corrected but he seems to have a motor which is always a plus!
