Free Agency Update

NJPanthers12

Recommended Posts

Ok this is what I was told this morning. Denver has informed D-Will they have moved on. He has a big offer from the Panthers on the table NJPanthers12 NJPanthers12

for 4 years. He went back to Hurney today to discuss his contract and it will be announced today. The money is good but DeAngelo wants 5 years. Should come in a little over 25 mil.

After locking DeAngelo up Hurney is hoping to talk to Joseph.

On Cofield: One free agency started Hurney contacted Johnson and D-Will right away and presented them offers. His hope was they would both accept right away and he could move on to his next target cofield. He contacted Cofield but was not prepared to give him a contract before the other 2 accepted. Cofield was the only notable free agent outside the organization the Panthers had contact with but no offer was made.

Whats wrong?

What do you mean wtf?

The guy hasn't missed a game since signing with the chiefs.

Sorry guys, let me reset.

:willy_nilly:

I'll admit, I think he's just a low-end role player, so I thought he'd be had for less and signed a lot later. I'm not mad about it and think his style will really complement both the young guys we drafted. I just thought we were going higher-end guys at DT.

Basically, I thought this was a deal you would give a Tommie Harris or Okoye.

The 3 year Deal for edwards is a real good Deal. He is an above Average player. And he just turned 32 this month. So he will more then likely be starting at NT on Defense.!!!!

Yeah, in that sense, it's definitely a good value. I hope we aren't done there though.

Would love to have DLo, Anderson, and TD wrapped up by tomorrow at the latest and hopefully we go after Joseph today/tomorrow as well...

Then, you will have the "We're going to the Superbowl!!11!!!" Proudiddy back.

I know some wanted a flashier signing at DT, but he fits the scheme really well. A very solid pickup, just like with Payne. A solid veteran pickup for a very young team.

Yeah, I really liked the Payne signing - huge value.

Probably the same with Edwards, although I'm not AS familiar with him.

I think my "wtf" was more because it seems we're targeting mid-level guys for lower prices as "safer" options than some of the other names out there.

I think our expectations of what these FA makes should be tempered a bit. Because of the new CBA and rookie salary cap the FA's are going to see a rise in what they will make. The teams HAVE to spend close to the cap to comply with the new rules. Now I admit that the teams don't have to spend to the floor until the end of the season, This FA period of going to see the teams that have plenty of cap room "overspending" for guys that they want.

I know this is going to seem obvious to some but others might be thinking these contracts are too high based on prior years. But this is a new deal for everyone and I trust that Marty and Co have this thing figured out where we won't be cash strapped later.

Carry on

Saving a bit of Money with the Safety and DT pickups.

On the DT spot, they really like the young guys from the draft. They'll get plenty of playing time. I'd expect McClain to start at DT.

Also need to save that money to lock up TD, Anderson, Dwill and make that run at Joseph.
