NJP, the charlotte observer is piss-poor with panthers coverage dude....they always have been. A lot of players "talk" to the writers because they are the hometown publications, but many educated, serious NFL/Panther fans know that deep down the CO brings absolutely nothing to the table for legitimate panthers coverage. Joe Person is probably the worst beat writer in the NFL.

I like Sorenson's commentary, but he doesn't bring much to the table regarding the panthers beat, either.

Actually I made a comment about how no one on the observer has written anything at all during the lockout and their two stories came from newspapers based in LA and NY. All I said was instead of fighting with fans go write an article. The life of a writer who could not make it in a big market. I feel like may fans would agree with this.

Here's a suggestion for smoother sailing in the future.

There are people who doubt your credibility. Accept that. If you want to answer someone, do it on a factual level. Defensiveness and/or pissing contests does nothing positive for you. We all can be tempted toward that sort of thing (I'm no exception) but it's still wise to avoid it.

Basically, post what you want to post and let it stand or fall on its own merit. You'll be better off overall.

Ok MrTouchdown can I have a constructive conversation with you without you trolling? And that is a serious question.

I said this morning that the Panthers were going to have a commitment from at least one of Johnson or D-Will by tonight. Where was that on the internet.

I said early this morning the Panthers were going to sign a safety. The first person they sign was Kevin Payne and that was not reported on the internet.

I said that the Panthers were going to offer Johnson a huge contract and the only way he would go to Atlanta was if he took a discount. Everyone on the internet said the Falcons were out until today when Charles Johnson himself confirmed the falcons were interested.

I tweeted a few weeks back Panthers Vs Broncos for D-Will. Chris Mortenson had the same exact tweet today and people quoted that as legit. I jut can't win with you.

I don't think he was downing you there. Just explaining how people in general feel about the Observer.

randywattson charles johnson

by daringantt

Atlanta back out they was scare of paying to much. They gonna see me twice a year! Bet that.

Charles Johnson confirmed what I have been saying all along. The Falcons wanted him at a discount and he said no.

And he's got a chip on his shoulder for Atl (salivating)

Someone said this earlier but....

you said expect us to sign a safety, however according to multiple media outlets we are not competing for Weddle and that eagles safety went to the Rams I think

are we going stick with this new guy Payne and Pugh or......?

I hope Pugh makes it through...he's one of the lesser knowns I've been rooting for since he got here

The team loves Pugh. Would not shock me at all if he is starting midseason. Also Mikell got 7 Mill, there is no way that was a possibility from the Panthers. I said all along Weddle was a long shot but the panthers still have interest. I am not sure who is left but they will bring someone to compete with Payne.

I like Pugh a lot too, but I honestly think Martin and Godfrey are due for big years----if we can get a solid 2 corner

This was the prediction:

The Panthers will also 100% sign a safety. Both Martin and Godfrey surprisingly are not safe but no talk to moving the to CB yet

Mikell and Weddle are both high on the Panthers wish list being familiar with McDermott and Rivera respectfully.

Signing Payne today doesn't make this prediction 100% correct, IMO. Seems as though the safety situation was going to get some attention no matter what. All the same, it could be interesting to see how Payne looks at 27 years old after lots of inactivity, he started for a full season in 2008.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
