DeAngelo Free Agency Thread

No, by NFL standards....Stewart/Goodson/Sutton is a stacked. The production of the backfield when DeAngleo has been hurt also supports it.

at this point, Goodson has shown just as much potential as Williams did 2 years into his career.....like Williams he is headed into his 3rd year w/ things he knows he needs to work on.

Everyone keeps saying Williams has all this gas in the tank and then ignores the fact he has had flat tires for 2 consecutive seasons. Williams was a beat up car when he entered the NFL unlike most RBs now.

Your kinda hyperbole the injury thing. He was placed on IR last year with an injury that would have taken 5 weeks to heal. If your want to call ankle sprains a major injury go ahead but it seems a little silly. As for the carries he did have a ton in college but the fact is we never used him as a work horse while in Carolina. Anyone that watched the games could tell we managed his carries very well and he did not slow down even on playoff runs.

hyperbole? Well, this is a message board.....

I don't know how long it would have taken him to heal......all I know is I don't take what is told about injury as 100% fact b/c teams fib too often. It could have been worse or better than portrayed.......all I know is he couldn't go.

The beat up car remark was a reference to how hard he was rode in college. You make no sense. You basically claim it is true and false in the same breath.....and have the balls to call others you are talking to ignorant.

He has been on IR the past two consecutive seasons.

The phrase "beat up" insinuates someone or something of little value, or "it" has seen it's best days, etc. So you make no sense, if you intended to simply imply a high amount of carries there was a much less dramatized way to go about it. If you want to be literal then be literal, don't over-indulge to try to get your point across, especially when there's nothing really nothing to base your claims upon.

Again last season he was on IR for an injury he "recovered from during the season", he was placed on IR to prevent wear and tear in a lame duck season. IMO Carolina was looking out for a future investment. In 2009 he played in 13 games (at that point in the season if he "was" placed on IR it doesn't really matter because we were not a playoff team). beat up in the context I was using it meant heavily used and pounded on. Since I was talking of his absurd reps compared to others entering the league....I thought him being beat up is something you could comphrehend.

you are assuming he was on IR and that your assumption is true. We don't know anything for sure when it comes to injury in the NFL and especially the Panthers. Personally, I don't believe guys that can play and realistically recover go to IR as a favor to "save" them from abuse (not on Fox's teams).....b/c that is a slap in the face to the Kalil's and Smitty's who are just as good going 100% in the pointless games.

I understood the phrase you posted, and even supplied a definition. It seems it's you who needs a refresher in how to get your point across without "sensationalizing". The team that was on the field was not Fox's team, many of Fox's veterans were cut in prep for the CBA Negotiations, and this off-season, to make sure this franchise was in a good position to navigate this off-season. If you don't get that by now, then....well you just can't be helped.

D-Will hasn't had more than 274 carries in his NFL career (2008) 1,500+, 216 (2009) 1,100+, and in the IR season of 2010 (87). He is not as worn out as you'd like to imply, just swallow the pill :chillpill:. And it doesn't matter if you believe it or not, it happens in the NFL. He has value to the Panthers (obvious), not only that other NFL teams are reportedly "very interested" as well, I don't think NFL GM's would fell that way about a "beat up car" as you put it.

“Chud said he has a big role for me and Jonathan to play this year and I’m pretty excited about that,” Williams said. “They even have packages where they will put me and Jonathan in at the same time, so it’s going to be pretty cool.”

I don't know about you guys, but this gave me the biggest boner out of the whole article. J. Stew and D. Will in the backfield at the SAME TIME?! What?! This was something I wished we would've done under the Fox era, but no. I'm liking this "forward" thinking by our new coaching staff. Actually UTILIZING our talents. Having them both on the field really brings Double Trouble to life. Just imagine that, Cam Newton under center, D. Will & J. Stew as the split backs, Steve Smith (God willing) in the slot out split outside, and then Shockey at TE! Jesus! As a defense, who and how are you going to cover all those weapons? I hope we get a deal done with DeAngelo, because with him, our offense is gonna be hard to cover!

The Jimmy's Clausen's weren't Fox's team....but Williams and all of his older guys were....the ones who played for him down to the final game and never quit all were Fox's guys. Fox is a players coach and it showed down the stretch with the guys he has had staying by his side.

Still don't buy Williams went to IR as a favor to save him from punishment when he could of played. You can't do that and look Beason in the face (management or player) when he is busting his tail week 15......that ain't good for building a team. Why not let players better than Williams go to IR then....everyone is playing w/ injuries late.

Who's to say he couldn't? Being placed on IR does not always mean your not able to go or its a major injury. One could point out Jstew has had just as many injury problems and is younger. No they have not prevented him from playing but he has twice the surgeries that Dwill has. We could also say Goodson is a major concern because he has had two concussions in back to back years.

All I'm going to say is everyone on Carolina saw the writing on the wall. When little was done regarding signing/player cuts etc. We went with the future of the team when guys like, Moose, Hoover, Delhomme, K. Vincent, Peppers, L. Johnson, and many others proven vets were cut or not re-signed.

Management took the high-road by saying they believed in the young talent, no one believed we'd finish 2-14, but based on our unproven QB situation we were not a guaranteed playoff contender. Though when it was apparent after the win vs the 49ers (game where D-Lo was hurt) it was obvious we were destined for a "high" pick, so the smart thing to do with any injured player was to avoid the risk of a "more serious/aggrevated injury". It's a FO decision to put a player on IR, a player who "is" on the field can't be mad at the player on IR, and players are intelligent enough to realize what's going on between the lines, "it's a business".
