DeAngelo Free Agency Thread

I have to wonder: If the Panthers have made DeAngelo anything close to a fair market value offer, then why hasn't he signed yet?

I don't think people realize how much it will hurt us to lose DeAngelo. Stewart and Goodson have shown flashes, but DeAngelo is the only real proven commodity we have at HB and like many have said, a rookie QB's best friend is a good running game... so we would be fools to let our best asset in the running game walk away.

DeAngleo also isn't the best asset at RB anymore....that is now Stewart (regardless if we keep both). 2008 doesn't make Williams the better RB in 2011.

my guess is carolina offered him a contract equivilent to what they signed jonathan stewart for, roughly $10m guaranteed...and that's being a little generous.

been telling people for almost 2 seasons that if williams isn't in carolina it'll be because williams decided not to stay.

bottom line, there is no/will not be a bidding "war" for williams. there are teams that are showing interest, but there is no "war".

despite what a lot of people choose to believe, and despite how much he's accomplished so far...no one is going to give a blockbuster contract to an aging rb who has only played 2 full seasons in the past 5.

this is williams's last payday. he's going to weigh every offer and take the best deal. the best deal will involve the most guaranteed money...and it won't be as much as a lot of people think.

DeAngelo is the better playmaker of the two, truth is they make each other better - Jonathan is the thumper so when teams get tired of chasing DeAngelo around they have to deal with Stew running them over.... still not sold on Goodson.

DeAngleo on the backside of his career isn't better than Stewart entering his prime.

I am fine keeping Williams, but the roles are reversing in Carolina of who the better RB is (and that is how it should happen).

This is probably a transition year for DeAngelo/Stew, but from where I sit DeAngelo is still a very important part of our running game and Cam will need the best running game he can get... that's the bottom line of my point.

Stewart just needs the opportunity, but I think he is about to explode w/ a Williams 2008 caliber season. Eventually Stewart is gonna get healthy enough to blow people's minds.

Agreed, but not sold on Goodson or Sutton being the "other guy"

Goodson just needs to work on 2 things....fumbling and picking up blocks.

As a runner or reciever...the talent ability is there. Goodson is better than Sutton, Sutton is a safer option.

fumbling and picking up blocks is 2 of the most important negatives a running back can have.

fumbling is something very correctable......from Tiki Barber to Adrian Peterson. That is very realistic to fix....and fix in an offseason.

picking up blocks? Goodson's blocking ability was probably the only thing uglier than Clausen's QB play. Blocking is probably the area of most concern.
