Thomas Davis is under contract for 2011

In Gantt's opinion we are going to sign Davis long-term or release him to "do right by him". I like the fact that the Panthers treat people right, but this is one of those cases when I think we go too far.

We have a chance to see if Davis is still the same guy after two knee surgeries before we make a commitment to him or let him go play for someone else... the first priority should be to do right by the organization and in this case the right move is to let Davis play out his current contract and see how his knee holds up before we extend him or release him.

I would assume this is to lower the salary for this year, sign him long term for cheap, instead of dealing with a situation like Charles Johnson. A player that will get 7-8 million a year.
